Leonard:
You have helped me so much with my life. I bought a softcover version of BOOK OF LONGING for when I travel, as I find your words and pictures comforting in unfamiliar surroundings. Your words and your voice have guided me through countless crisis situations in such a helpful way; you are truly part of my life. I wish you health and self peace.

Hey Lennie,
Happy birthday, my friend. I've been listening to your songs since maybe 1970-71. I was in your 1972 concert which you held in the Sport stadium in Tel Aviv and I think you are a genius!
Thank you for the soul that you gave us all the years.

I want to add my birthday wishes to all the others who will undoubtedly congratulate you on sept the 21th
So Mr. Cohen since I am 53 there was no time in my life you where not also there
Sometimes in poems - sometimes in songs . Sometimes not at all.
Sometimes as comfort sometimes as a laugh and sometimes as despair
But always as a voice I turned to over and over again .
Seeing you now makes me content and moved Because you seem to have overcome so much
and you just look like a man that found his peace
With great Affection Anna from Holland

Dear Leonard
I think of all the times
I have tuned into your rhymes
And found therein the source
of inspiration.
The means to take another step
To laugh instead of weep
And to remember your wry grin
in the face of desolation.
I might have found a clue
in an old film featuring you
on which you wrote upon a wall
'caveat emptor'.
There is nothing to bewail
And its all to no avail
So we might as well enjoy
with our redemptor.
Now you've reached another year
and you're still grinning ear to ear
the joke is on ourselves
you seem to say
So we raise a glass to you
and to you and you and you
Bonne fete monsieur.

Dear Leonard,
I wish you the happiest of birthdays, and love, light, peace and harmony for the coming year.
I can't thank you enough for your words and your music, and I don't have the eloquence to tell you how much they mean to me.

Dear Leonard,
I hope that you have a very happy birthday. Thanks, especially for all the time spent with us over the last 18 months or so! Also the past 40+ years. Its been fantastic, and so glad that you seem to be enjoying it so much too. So..............................
May the long time sun shine upon you,
All love surround you
and the pure light within you
guide your way on.
Hopefully, maybe, back this way again, but if not, well then thanks for the beautiful memories we'll always have!!!
With warmest love and regards Maureen

Just wondering
Is it just a coincidence that Leonard's birthday falls on International Peace Day?

Happy 75th Birthday Leonard!!!
Just want to say in the words of Abba (sorry!!) (slight amendments made)
"Thank you for the music, the songs you're singing
Thanks for all the joy theyr'e bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music (and poetry)
For giving it to me"
Thank you so much Leonard your lyrics have offered me so much comfort , sadness and joy on many occasions over the past years - you always seem to have appropriate words or lyrics for all the sad and happy times in my life.
Am very honoured and privileged that I will be attending the special concert in Barcelona on your 75th birthday, would have loved to joined in with the celebrations before the concert, will be thinking of you all, maybe I will meet some of you after the concert.
Once again, thank you, have a happy, healthy and joyous birthday!!!
Love Jackie x

Aman Cara
Dear Leonard,
In the Celtic tradition, there is a beautiful understanding of love and friendship. The idea is of soul love; the old Gaelic term for this is Anam Cara. Anam is the Gaelic word for soul and cara is the word for friend, in the Celtic world anam cara was the soul friend. A person who acted as a teacher, companion or spiritual guide was called anam cara. You have been an anam cara to me for many years. Thank you.
"The Deer's Cry" - one of the oldest Celtic prayers
"I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendour of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Dept of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock."
Breithla shona duit - happy birthday and may you arise each day with the sun on your face and the wind to your back.
In song.
