The last four years I have spent the last week of May and the first week of June at the French open tennis at Roland Garros.
This year I may skip the tennis as Hydra seems a novel idea.
What websites are good to source accommodation or what recomendations do people make that might still be available?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Michael

Kelsey Edwards has links to most of the hotels and other Hydra sites at
http://www.greekislandsrealestate.com. Hotel info is also available on the following sites (and many others, you may google to find them!):
http://www.hydradirect.com and HYDRA-island.com

What is some advice you can give me for trying tennis?
I really want to start playing tennis. I've been sort of playing it a little in the summer for a year with my family and I think it is really fun and hope to do it next year in High School. Any tips of advice you can give? No one in my family has really played tennis so they aren't as experienced. Any help would be great thanks!

Hi MarrieX ~
Your question would get a better response if you put it in the Everything Else section with a thread of its own, titled something about how to learn tennis. At first, I thought you were a Spammer and, I guess at this point waiting to see what your second post will be, i.e. with a link Spam. If this is a serious question, my suggestion would be that you call your nearest junior college; ask the athletic coach at your local high schools; and Google "tennis instructors" for your area. If you have a country club nearby, you could call there, as well, as the person who instructs there may possibly instruct elsewhere, as well.
Welcome to the Forum, Marrie. How did you find us?
~ Lizzy
P.S. You won't learn tennis on Hydra, or miss out on any matches if you attend a meet-up and still haven't learned

.

And just an FYI for you daft about lennie [or anyone else who may wonder] ~ These 'off-year' gatherings on Hydra are a given as to their happening... they don't just get cancelled. "Off-year" refers to the years in between the official gatherings known as Events with years attached to them... they're the 'even' years... 2000/2004/2006/2008/2010/etc. It's become tradition for people to gather on Hydra in the summer of the years where there's not an official Event. Unlike a pre-concert gathering, that could get cancelled, I guess... for lack of participation, there will always be people gathering at these Hydra gatherings. So, not seeing any recent info on them doesn't mean they're not going to happen because they are. People just happen to be focused on other things right now. As the time nears closer, you'll see a lot more activity here. I can only say, "Go! You'll love it!"

Just a note: Usually you don't need to book your tickets in advance in June, but this year, the European Elections on 7th and the Holy Spirit Monday on 8th June (a favorite 3-4 days getaway for Greeks), means that perhaps you should book your tickets earlier,in case you have planned to visit Hydra on these dates.
See you soon!

Just 20 days to go ... Hydra here we come.
One problem still to solve and that is the small matter of accomodation.I know I'm cutting it fine but one has to remain an optimist.
In the interests of economy is anyone interested in sharing rooms or does anyone have a room to spare/rent OR a garden to camp in!! (I know it is extreme.)
If anyone can offer any help or advice on this topic I will listen with great interest.
I can be contacted by email at
r.r.workshop@talk21.com
Any help will be rewarded with a bottle of ice cold Mythos, tempting eh?
See you all in a few days.
Russell

I'm starting to worry about the language... how hard is it to find your way around without speaking/reading any Greek?
