Today, Friday 20th,
Lissadell are hanging 16 - 2 x 2ft "stunning" pictures of Leonard on stage in Lissadell with a large 8 x 4ft picture centred on the wall of the massive Coach-house where Leonard and his Band spent many hours on Saturday and Sunday just hanging around, relaxed and eating meals prepared with the organic produce from the Garden at Lissadell.,
the whole area was closed off so they could wander at will through any part of it and the Coachyard below....
A very large room within the Coach house area was made ready with beautiful furnishings to act as a dressing room for Leonard and the Band...they now call that "The Green Room" when Isobel brought me through it yesterday , I was the first visitor since they had used it !....
I was looking around to see if Leonard had left anything behind ....
I "found he did not leave me very much "but only" laughter

They were walking close to cows and calves on commonage land, which is not fenced off from the beach, when a bull emerged from the herd and began charging towards them....

I heard about this but if LC was walking on Mullaghmore beach he probably didn't have a dog with him, cattle can tend to go for dogs. Awful experience for that unfortunate woman though, she really was lucky to escape.

Monday August 09 2010. Irish Independent by Anita Guidera.
A RARE photograph of poet WB Yeats, taken shortly before his death, went on public display for the first time at the weekend at Lissadell House.
The ancestral home of Countess Constance Markievicz has been reopened to the public, having been closed for 18 months because of a dispute over alleged rights of way.
The photograph of the poet, who regularly visited the Co Sligo house, forms part of a new exhibition in the Yeats Gallery, which was officially opened by poet and singer Leonard Cohen, who performed two concerts on the grounds of the house last weekend. The picture, taken by his wife George days before his death in 1939, shows the poet lying on a bed, a cat sitting on his knee. There is also a photograph of the ship bearing the coffin of Yeats back to Ireland from Switzerland for burial in Drumcliff Churchyard.
Lissadell owners Eddie Walsh and Constance Cassidy gave one of two first-edition books of Yeats's poetry as a gift to Cohen, a WB fan.
Over the weekend, hundreds of visitors walked through the converted coach house complex to view the exhibition, worth an estimated €250,000, and three other exhibitions.
The family decided to reopen the house and gardens following the success of the Leonard Cohen and Westlife concerts. Estate manager Isobel Cassidy said that they were "over the moon'' with the turnout.
Later this year, High Court judge Mr Justice Bryan McMahon is expected to deliver judgment in the row between Sligo County Council and the owners of Lissadell over whether public rights of way exist on the estate.

Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.
Report below reproduced from The Sligo Champion, 18th August.
On Wednesday 19th August a similar article by Anita Guidera was published in The Irish Independent.
As I stated at the outset of this debate, my main concern is that the Drumcliffe Church Body is not held up to ridicule, playing into the prankster's hands, by having the page framed and displayed for visitors.
It was a bad enough that someone should write in "L.Cohen" but insult was added by second-guessing Leonard himself and entering under "Comments" the word "Sublime" as representing his feelings regarding his visit to the burial place of William Butler Yeats, this was reported in The Irish Times (no less !) on August 2nd as being authentic.
I believe that Leonard is aware of this little controversy and the end result may be that, at a later stage, he would sign a page and enter a comment for display at Drumcliffe..

Wednesday August 18 2010
By JIM GRAY. ( Editor ) THE SLIGO CHAMPION.
Leonard Cohen has left a million happy memories behind in Sligo in the wake of his unforgettable Lissadell concerts --but he's also left an intriguing mystery as to whether he actually signed the visitors' book at Drumcliffe graveyard when he visited the grave of W. B. Yeats.
The visitors' book contains two signatures purporting to be those of the legendary Canadian singer/songwriter, but doubts have emerged about their authenticity.
The rector of Drumcliffe group of parishes, Revd. Ian Linton, has now shelved plans to put on public display the entry in the visitors book which he believed was Cohen's authentic signature until such time as the confusion is clarified.
Some light may be shed on the mystery later today (Wednesday) when Mr. Mike Purcell, a member of the Leonard Cohen Forum is due to travel from Carlow to view both signatures.
He has already been in contact with Mr. Cohen's manager in an attempt to ascertain when the singer actually visited Drumcliffe Church and graveyard, as the visitors' book was signed by some "L.Cohen" on two separate dates.
The first entry, signed L. Cohen, Montreal, is dated Friday, July 30th, which was the opening day of the Lissadell festival. The second signature is L. Cohen, and the word 'Sublime' is written in the column reserved for comments. This entry is dated August 1st, the final day of the Lissadell shows.
"We believe the chances are that one of them is authentic," Revd. Linton told THE SLIGO CHAMPION, " but the problem is which one.
Revealing that it was he who had torn the page with the L. Cohen's signature from the visitors' book in order to protect it from vandalism, he said they had planned to frame it and put it on public display in the adjoining tea house. They still hoped to display the authenticated signature.
"We are certain that Leonard Cohen visited the graveyard and church, so hopefully, somebody will be able to tell us definitively which one is his correct signature, because it would be lovely to be able to display it."
Adding to the confusion is that the August 1st entry is also signed by 'Jes Cohen", but according to Mr. Purcell, as far as he could ascertain , nobody of that name accompanied Mr. Leonard to Sligo.
"We are aware that Leonard's daughter, Lorca, was in Sligo, and there is a woman called Jessica in the family. Michael has already had it confirmed by a relative of Leonard Cohen that Jessica was not in Sligo.
I would say one of the signatures is definitely a forgery, but hopefully we can authenticate the other one, because we believe Leonard did visit the graveyard and the likelihood is that he would have signed the book," Mr. Purcell added.

Hi Carlow Mike,
Like many other forum members I would like to contribute to the 'plaque fund' if there is such a thing. No reason at all for you to cover the total cost. Please send me on details and I'll post on the dosh. And, again, thanks so much for all you have done . Catherine

Re: Sligo-Help for newbies.
Update on the Canadian Maple and Plaque.
The tree is now replanted at Lissadell, beside a lake, at the Concert site,
planted alongside is the gift from Altamont Gardens
" Crocosmia Masoniorum Altamon"
propagated by, the late, Corona North-Lecky-Watson.
A garden seat is placed nearby.
In time it is intended that flowers / shrubs mentioned in Leonard's lyrics (any suggestions
Laurel, Rose, Lilac
)
will be planted in the surrounding area.
Work on the Plaque is now in the capable hands of stonemason, Frank McGarry.
Frank will have a costing for me early next week,
I will then Post the Inscription with a suggestion of how some of you may participate in this venture.
The idea of the Plaque is to record for future generations why the tree was planted here and to acknowledge
the truly great Concerts delivered by Leonard and his Band at Lissadell in 2010,
The Plaque will be erected following a little ceremony on Leonard's birthday, 21st September.
