lonndubh,
Ah Shinrone, Shinrone, the name is poetry. 8)
I had the pleasure of seeing John Stewart, Peter Rowan, Guy Clarke and Townes Van Zandt TOGETHER in the Pathe Hotel in Roscrea (not a million miles from Shinrone) one night many years ago. They sang individually and together and when I left at 3 a.m. they were still singing.
I think Arlo and Pete sing Hobo's Lullaby together somewhere.
I know a lot of people ascribe the lyrics to Woody but they were actually written by a man called Gobel Reeves, who was himself a hobo for part of his life, having left his middle class home.
I heard Pete sing it - it was a moment to remember - in his kitchen one summer evening. One of the greatest gentlemen I have ever met. He's my oldest son's godfather so I have a very soft spot for the man. He did a superb LP of Spanish Civil War songs which I have on vinyl but have never seen on CD.

In the dim and distant past I made a couple of radio programmes with Pete in the States. We stayed in touch and he kindly agreed to by my son's Godfather.
Just two weeks ago he performed at a fundraiser for Utah Phillips who has severe health problems at the moment and cannot work. Pete will be be 90 on May 3rd next year.
I'm reminded, in the light of another thread here, of a quote from Pete in a Rolling Stone interview about his songs:
"Some may find them merely diverting melodies. Others may find them incitements to Red revolution. And who will say if either or both is wrong? Not I."

Red Poppy that is really a great story and your son must be very proud.
I didnt realise that Pete was still alive.
"And who is to say that either or both is wrong ? Not I "
Singers like Seger Guthrie and Paxton to name but a few will always sing their truth which in my view is far more powerful than we might imagine

lonndubh,
yes the (now not quite so) young fellow is very proud.
And yes Pete is alive and kicking (literally & metaphorically).

a question re Royal Hospital seating plan

Post by mirka »

I'd appreciate enlightening me re seating plan: I have a ticket for seat in Block A3, row S, I can see where block A3 is located, but cannot find row S on the seating chart supplied by Ticketmaster.
In fact I don't see any logic in row numbering - for example: is row S block A3 closer to the stage then row M block A7:?:

I have never been to the venue and am guessing using a kind of linear logic ... each row starts with a letter based on its relation to the central row (which, logically, starts with A) .. I assume it then goes A-Z and then AA, BB, etc ... so the row which starts with G would have S as about the 13th (!!!) row back.
Since I had to return my Berlin tickets and wait patiently for more Autumn dates, I guess I will not be able to find out personally if I am right!!!

But enjoy the show .. all in all, you have good seats!!!

Hi Mirka
As the previous poster has said, block A3 and block A7 should be equidistant from the centre of the stage.
Rows are numbered alphabetically. Both those blocks begin with Row G, so count from G to M or S and that's the number of rows from the front of that block.
Your A7 M is therefore closer to the front than the A3 S. Both are in the forward block of seats. Hope this helps.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.

Mirka, The only drawback to row S through to AA is that there are no backs to the seats so you'd better hope the person behind does not have bony knees. That's why they're cheaper thgan the rest. ;-)

Thanks you all, now it makes sense to me.

Poppy, do you mean only rows S through to AA have no backs to the seats ? I got two tickets now: one for row S, another for row L, both seem to have same price on them (e115) ...?

Row L is fine. Row S and back to AA are the problems. I hope you didn't get those passed on to you by a poster here who sold me three seats that turn out to be spaces for a chip van pitch at the back of the stand. ;-)
Actually, Mirka, I'm joking  - we look forward to welcoming you to our currently very hot and dry country.

I have 2 spare tickets for the sat gig in Dublin. My friends are all busy that weekend, so I am happy to go on the friday and have great seats for that night. I will post these on the ticket thread too but thought I would put them on the dublin one also.. Block A5 and row UU, so not too bad seats really. Face value of course ! PM me if interested, first come first served
