Well, I have also been thinking in prostitues... Then, what's the story, if you don't mind to tell?
In fact, is there a book to interpret these lyrics? Or do you recommend one book in particular?
Thank you.
Funny that you asked this question in a thread that doesn't seem to have any connection with it-but there is still some little connection. The only time I remember Cohen mentioning Edmonton (the famous place of the famous next Event) was in the introduction of the Sisters of Mercy song recorded for BBC. Something about 2 girls wearing mini-skirts who greeted him at the airport, and who had introduced the mini skirts to Edmonton (that just stuck into my mind)... The more exact quote (and others, which rather seem to contradict it) on

Dear friends,
it seems that here in Zagreb we have dropped the idea for Dubrovnik (or Croatia at all) 2010 Event. Although we almost already won, we are
withdrawing the nomination for 2010 event. Each of us has more important priorities in his life. I am really sorry and I have been secured that this decision is coming early enough as next venue has to be decided and announced in Edmonton next July.
I also don't believe I'll be able to catch up with Edmonton in July 2008, but I am hoping to be part of 2010 European Event team (I am still for Poland and its great team and hoping to help; or Spain if there's anybody, and now Dublin is in the game also, I hear). I don't know for the two other guys. Anyhow I have to make some time for my PhD (which is due to be finished until 2009-10) and other stuff.
Edmonton is too far and too espensive for me, but I'll be in Verona this December, and I hope on Hydra next June, if there will be anybody from Cohenites community. Also, I'll be watching more carefully the incidental gatherings, since I already missed Warsaw this March and Dublin for Willner show and now Glass show in London. Only because of my laziness, I have to wathc out more carefully for these kind of happenings
Take care
Tom

I'm sorry to hear that Croatia is off the 'auction' block, Tom. Maybe another year, after you've completed your understandable priority of PhD. Any of the others sound fine to me. Would love to go to any of them [with a return to Poland].

Jarkko and I did discuss the possiblity of Mumbai when we were in Dublin. I'm not offering to organise but I would gladly turn up.

I think Drumcondra would be a good spot for the next free event. To the best of my knowledge, Leonard passed through it several times on his way in and out of Dublin. Plus one of his major fans (not me) lives there.

Don't mean to speak for Jarkko, but I think the key to next event are the organizers ... the one or more folks who have the ability and desire to organize the undertaking.... They then will have the key word in deciding where the event will be. First.. Who.... Second... Where.
You ok with that Jarkko?

Dublin would be great but I am biased as it's my home town although I don't live there now. My brother lives there and he's a big fan (but I have surpassed him and he is so jealous that I got to meet Leonard). I could cook Leonard some Colcannon (Dublin style with curly kale and onions, very nutritious, heatwarming and yummy) if he happened to drop by.
Oh, just read Dick's message, he's quite right and I'm being selfish, would there be anybody in Dublin who would be willing to organise things?

has anybody suggested Iraq?

Dick, you hit the nail on the head. No Event without organizers!
We are discussing some alternatives and will keep you informed.
Any thoughts in this matter are appreciated.

Tom,
I understand, but very disappointed as I was really hoping for Croatia. I am still willing to help on a volunteer basis and as an organizer for previous events (for whatever meager value that may have).
I think that Nashville should be a consideration for the next North American gathering. I would certainly be willing to help organize that one.

I'd be willing to help however I could, too, Joe. Somewhere actually affordable for me to get to

. I know it's awhile away, so that's all I'll say.

Thank you, Joe. I have also volunteered for the 2010 team (wherever it will be here in Europe; I guess not so far away); let's see if they still want me
Anyway, you can visit here anytime you want.
Otherwise I second Dick. There was some talk "why Croatia, there's no LC connection" but the general idea is that the event is there where there are people who can make it happen.

Don't worry too much about the LC connection. If it has got none, we make it an LC connection. As has been said before, the prime thing it needs is a person who gives the head for this thing to happen. And by saying this I definitely dont mean that "filthy".

Oye dudes! And Dudettes, and Dudames!
I like Dublin, because Ireland is cool and green and such, and I like Berlin too, because I can take a boat + train instead of taking a flight. Flights are hard on my conscience due to enviromental issues.
I think I can commit to that wherever it ends up taking place, if I can make it there, I will at least show up a few days in advance to help out, perhaps even a week before.
