If Labour get in again then I'm just going to crawl into the cupboard under our stairs and wait for the next election. Four or five more years of Tone (and the Cheshire Cat) could push me to this.
But it's not about personalities is it...... it's about the party that can deliver what the country needs..it's about going back to basics.. it's about common sense policies....it's about trust in the government...and Labour have had their chance over the recent years and have lost their way.
I think I will go and get my cupboard ready.... see you all in 4 years or more.

BTW is it still so that the soldiers in Iraq are not able to vote? Tony said he would sort that out.. he promised Jeremy Vine about 2 weeks ago.

Pete you are beginning to sound like a Party Political Broadcast
I think I have made up my mind now anyway I wouldn't trust Tony Blair in charge of the Women's Institute stall at the local fair but I like Michael Howard. If Gordon Brown was in charge I would vote for him but he isn't so I think the blues have my vote.

Sorry can't forgive or forget the Thatcher/Major years.

If we went around comparing Labour to the "winter of discontent" years, then Blair would not of got in. He was a breath of fresh air in the early years, but of late has become to believe in His own invincibility.

Paula,
A vote for Blair is a vote for Brown. Six months in, He will stand down. He has already hinted at that. I personally don't like Howard, but your voting for the Party, not the leader in a way.

Scooby - I don't have your faith in Blair standing down especially if he is re-elected, I think the ego has landed and is not going to go quietly and I can't see Cherie relinquishing her role as "first lady". And I know I should be voting for a party rather than a leader but I don't trust Blair I think he considers what he says goes. He thinks he is the Government and if we give him another four years he will just ride roughshod over public opinion.

Polls closed - my bet is on Labour

Couldn't bring myself to vote Labour but couldn't bring myself to vote Conserative either. If only Screaming Lord Sutch was still with us.

So, it's Labour back in with the lowest majority for a single serving Government ever.
Me thinks Mr Blair will have trouble trying to get another War and Top-up-fees type scam in the future.

Are you seriously glad George Galloway has been elected John. I was horrified.

The two radical parties from either side of the fence in Northern Ireland have swept up and the last remaining Nobel Prize winner has lost his seat. Ian Paisley terrifies me, and i am immensly worried at how well he has done out of this.
BTW, i was watching election coverage this morning and one of the pundits kept on referring to "The Liberals", I didn't have a clue who he was talking about

... Labour should be forced to change their name.

Hi Paula,
I know we haven't agreed about asylum/immigration etc. but I too was horrified that the oleaginous Galloway was elected. Oona King was a good MP and I feel sad for her. Galloway's an egotistical monster who will have to appease his motley collection of supporters ... be interesting to see what happens to his Muslim vote when it comes to his support for issues like gay rights.
I voted Lib Dem here in Harrogate to keep the Tories out, although for the most part I agreed with a lot of their policies. However, I did persuade my family (mom and sisters) to vote Labour in the Midlands as the party placed to keep the Tories out. They were anti war (as I am) and were going to vote Lib Dem. It's easy to forget the minimum wage, working families tax credit, increase in nursery places, Sure Start schemes, pension credits, regeneration money etc... that Labour has put in place to help the poorest in society. Labour like the Tories seem not give a damn about boardroom scammers and asset strippers but at least some help was going to those at the bottom of the pile. I don't think the Tories would've done much for them.

i am by no means a fan of galloway and he is extremely egotistical
Howeveri was extremely pleased to see him tell that tosser Jeremy Paxman where to go when he pursued a ridiculous line of questioning with him
still catching up on sleep.
