Thank you so much for all these years of poetry, for your voice like a whisper, in filigree all over the years, 27 years since your concert in Nancy (France) where I drew a portrait of you.
Thank you for being what you are: an uncommon man, beyond compare.
Happy Birthday, Mr Cohen.

Dear Leonard
I am a mere 28-years-old and have been alive for very little of your career, though your music has had a profound impact on my life in many ways.
Through a messy divorce your music was there as a comfort, and for many hard times to follow (usually involving heartache), and your singing and guitar playing have helped steer my course as a songwriter.
I owe you so much and if I can help bring your music to other people's ears through my own work, then I will consider it a small part of the debt repaid.
I hope you have a wonderful birthday and continue to delight fans around the world with your music and poetry.
Love and admiration,
Steve

Dear Leonard Cohen
Happy birthday! Receive all our very best wishes for you, for your 70th birthday and for the time to come!
We too wish you a fantastic health – in order that you among other things once more will enjoy giving your loving fans a little concert tour in USA, Europe or some where else in the world… PLEASE, Mr Cohen, please…!!! You choose the place, the town, the country – and we will come!
Or let us meet at your and our wonderful Hydra… (cf. the booklet from Leonard Cohen Event 2002)
By the way Danish television celebrates your birthday tonight with a 2-hours show e.g. the talk show (1992) with Jarl Friis-Mikkelsen as host. May be you remember? We look forward to seeing the whole show.
At last my dear husband Axel and I will thank you for all your beautiful poems, your wonderful songs, your sensitive voice… – and for all the good moments and happiness you have brought into our lives. Thanks so very much, Mr Cohen.

Dear Leonard,
With Jupiter (the planet of well-being and abundance) transiting your natal Sun, and with the Moon in Sagittarius trining Venus (the planet of love and harmony), I can safely predict that you will have a very happy 70th birthday, and a healthy and successful year ahead.
Many Happy Solar Returns!
With very best wishes, John Etherington

Here in New Zealand we have been celebrating your birthday for 7 hours. Happy Birthday and thanks for the new album. I had the privelage of seeing you in Melbourne 3 times - twice in 1980 and once in 1985. My then 6 month old daughter came to one of the 1980 concerts. Do you remember her cries? She is now 25 and heading off to Antarctica for her second trip in November. I'll try and get a copy of Dear Heather to her before she goes.
To get a new album from you in your 70th year is a real blessing.
Thank you and have a great day.

I'm posting this on behalf on FRANK MUTTER, Spain.
"Dear Leonard,
Thanks for opening you heart, it opened mine.

Casida del llanto
He cerrado mi balcón
F.G. Lorca
CASIDA OF WEEPING
I have shut my balcony
because I do not want to hear the weeping
but behind the grey walls
nothing is heard except weeping.
There are very few angels singing,
there are very few dogs barking,
a thousand violins fit in the palm of my hand.
But weeping is an immense dog,
weeping is an immense angel,
weeping is an immense violin,
the tears gag the wind,
and nothing is heard except weeping.
Happy Birthday

Thank you, Leonard, for all that you have written and sung. Your work is embarrassingly important to me.
I wish you all the best this birthday and many more in good health and fine voice.

Sir
You have 'laurels' aplenty.
Thank you for never resting on them.
Happy Birthday from Byron.
