Hi,

Thank you Hartmut, anny and holydove for the responses. All good answers. holydove identified
the song I had in mind and included the applicable stanza. Similar to how the situation was for the
character in Dylan's "Mississippi," there's a stated time period in "The Traitor," going forward from
which things go badly. In "Mississippi" we hear: "Only one thing I did wrong / Stayed in Mississippi
a day too long." The guy in "The Traitor" got to his tipping point faster; it was but "a fatal moment"
for him.

There is at least one song which contains lyrics which refer to something that has been said to be a lifelong habit of Leonard Cohen's, which began in his adolescent years. Please name the song & lyrics.

It's a slow song, I suppose.

You say 'at least one song'. I can't think of a second one. Maybe someone else has an idea.

Hi Hartmut,

I'm thinking of one particular song; I said "at least", in case someone else thinks of another song that refers to the particular habit I have in mind.

If you're referring to the song, "Slow", that's a fine answer, & one can say it alludes to a lifelong habitual style, but it's not the one I have in mind. The habit I'm thinking of has nothing to do (at least not directly) with romance, love-making, or music; but it was originally a nocturnal habit, & possibly still is, though it also seems possible that in Leonard's later years, it has become an early morning habit.

I just noticed that I accidentally submitted the same post twice (after a minor edit), & now discovered that one cannot delete a post once someone has replied, so I guess it will be there - twice - forever! Sorry about that!

Thank you, Annie. Good guess but no, the habit mentioned in the song I'm thinking of is not morning meditation.

It was mentioned in a biography that Leonard developed this habit some time after the death of his father, while he was still living in his childhood home; & I'm not 100% sure if his mother knew about it, but it's likely that she found out about it at some point, & I would imagine it probably worried her a bit.

Hi holydove,

Is the habit taking walks? "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye" has these words:
"walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme."

Hi Rachel,
I’m not at all sure about this but a couple your last words "early morning" in one of your previous clues keep getting stuck in my mind and I also have an association with “morning” on Allan’s cohencentric site today, so karma being what it is :)

So I walked through the morning, sweet early morning
~ Lady Midnight

EDIT: You are right to say that you can't delete a post after someone has answered but you can alter it to read a couple of dots or a word if you want.

A similar thing happened to me today, because of a hickup in the forum software.

But no need to be sorry; there can never be too many posts of you ... :-)

I had the same idea as Steven. Sylvie Simmons wrote something about nightly walks, I think.

Found it: He began 'going out late at night, two or three nights a week, wandering alone through the seedier streets of Montreal'.

And Hartmut, further to that maybe expressed this way:

I walk the streets ~ There For You

Yes, Bev, you're right!

'I walk the streets. Like I used to do.'
