Bring it on Joe that would be a walk in the park I am sure for our intrepid band and just to show my kindred spirit I will volunteer to miss out on the fun and keep the seats warm in the pub . You do have pubs in New Hampshire Joe . Please tell me you do !!

We found out why Leonard has been 'off our radar' of late...
He is to be 'feted' at the home of the 'Bard' this very weekend.... ;-)

A message post Barmouth

Forgive me friends for I have sinned
My life was once so disciplined
Until I travelled down Barmouth way
And in my innocence was led astray
But now my life is back on track
Stone cold sober with my sanity back
Never again shall I raise a glass
When Cohen meet ups come to pass
I do not care what others think
Tis abstinence from the demon drink
And now I long for Germany
To preach the lesson of sobriety

So here's to all and a weekend walking
Ignore the above it's the drink talking !

Cheers Phil

Ha.... I laughed out so loud when I read that poem Phil. You have to get your poems published like Pete got his novel published. What a talented bunch of people on this Forum, but being Leonard Cohen fans, I am not the least surprised

You cannot give up the drink Phil, not until after you drink the beer that I owe you :)

excellent phil.....

......i see a pattern forming with your work....it's interesting that your best poems seem to be a result of personal trauma.....so let's hope that you continue living a troubled and strife-ridden existence so that we fans can enjoy the resulant poems......ta ken

Ken
Just to rub salt in the wounds I see some one at the council has planted palm trees and the clock on the tower is probably set at Carribean time ! Is someone having a laugh or is it just wishful thinking ? Still at least they can line the streets with trees if Barnsley council did that there would be a return to open fires and a surge in chainsaw sales if you get my drift !

Ken and Phil I wonder about you two. How many years does one have to live in the north of England to realise you need to buy some proper winter clothing, and embrace the cold and the snow, like Pete has? Nice snowscape with Whitby Abbey. Down here by the sea we've not had a flake for weeks and the sun is shining . . . I recall being in the lovely town of Heidelberg many years ago and it was rather warm then, too.

like it was here . . .

The Yorkshire coast is cold, so cold
during winter months so long
and Ken forgot his thermal vest
he got it all so wrong.

"This wind is chilling me to the bone"
The North Sea knew no bounds
But no one heard his cries of woe
The waves drowned out his sounds

Whilst Liverpool basked in gulf stream warmth
Whitby's flow was ice
"This isn't my idea of fun...
This isn't very nice..."

And the more he shivered, the more he wished
That he was back in 'Pool
But he didn't want to let it show
In fact he looked quite cool.

But the 'cool' soon turned to an ice cold front
Whilst a Yorkshire brass band played
For they were used to all of this
Of stronger stuff were made.

The only brass that Ken now knew
Were monkeys' freezing balls
"If I stay here any longer,
I'll have none left at all"

"Next time I venture this far east
I'll wait 'til winter's out
And the sea will be so quiet and calm
I'll never need to shout"

"But if I do happen this way
When arctic winds do'th blow
I'll wear my thermal vest and more
And long johns just for show"

The moral of this story
Is Yorkshire ain't so bad
If you live in south the county
Just like our Yorkshire Lad.
