Just one complaint. When we last met (Albert Hall 1992) you promised us another evening of song 'in five or six years'. We're still here, where are you?

I'm going to honor Leonard's 73rd with my radio program, "Tower of Song" (which has been on the air for years), this Saturday from 12 - 2 am (PST) on community (NPR afl.) KUSP in Santa Cruz, CA. USA (or: http://www.kusp.org). I will be reading from my Orphic Essay in Argument & Song, "Leonard Cohen's Romantic Myth of Descent: or What Boogie Street Is For," and playing appropriate songs.

PS: Dear Leonard: Having a birthday on September 22, I still have and cherish that postcard you so graciously sent long ago, the one with the father holding his child (I was a new father then). And thank you for teaching this would-be writer (Buddhist) humility. But please forgive me for thinking I could do your songs justice by using them in my essay.

A friend who moved to Tel Aviv two weeks ago, has just sent me an email reminding of today being the international day of peace... a great coincidence that is, to my mind. "Villanelle for our time" just comes to my mind, "From bitter searching of the heart / We rise to play a greater part".
