i am put in mind, after the last disgusting six months, of this line:

may the light in the land of plenty
shine on the truth tonight

Dear flannobrien ~

What you've said resonates with me beyond measure.

Well I do not agree with that view, one might ad a cohen line in several interviews : "America is the great hope...the intellectuels of the left in Europe has always put America down, but they themselves are prostitutes, who has given up every ideal..." (based on a fragile memory)

As he sings :
Have mercy on our uniform
man of peace
man of war
the peacock spreads his deadly fan

Does anyone remember seeing the satellite night pictures of the earth? I posted that website on here awhile back. That definetely could have been titled The Lights in The Land of Plenty. By the lights around the world, you can most certainly tell where the wealth is.

So come my friends be not afraid we are so lightly here. It is in love that we are made, in love we disappear.

Like others have said, there are so many wonderful words from him and they just keep coming. I sent these particular lines to a friend who experienced the loss of someone very young. For me, they describe not only the fragility of the human experience but also its endurance.

That was a beautiful use of Leonard's lyrics, Rock Rose.

I think it was a couple of years ago we were high up on the San Gabriel Mtns. (California) at 3 am in the morning. And it was one of the most incredible sights I've ever seen....the entire night sky was lit up with little blue points of light, some brighter than others. I could hardly find a spot that was not lit up. It made the lights in the land of Plenty (and everywhere else) look pretty wimpy in comparison. And I remember thinking firstly, how really completely insignificant we and everything else really is before the immenseness of nature and secondly, that I would give up anything on earth to travel to those blue points and check them out at close quarters. What's really goin' on out there ?

Happy Birthday to LC.

Hi Kush ~

Please go to the News section and wish Leonard there, as he'll actually be reading that thread, via Jarkko. Why wish him in absentia, when you can actually get it to him :D .

Hi Linda ~ Greetings fellow 'travelers'. This is very new to me (first time on Internet ) so I'm not familiar with this strange language (what's a "bbCode"?). Anyway, my favourite line is ...."I'll have to deal with envy when You choose the precious few". So epitomizes Mr Cohen's wonderful gift for presenting soul & mind stirring concepts. The 'catch 22' double meaning didn't occur to me till about the third time I listened to it. That's only one of many of course, especially on "Various Positions". As he said , "There's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in". Interesting that Leonard means 'lion' & Cohen means 'seer'. "Compulsion of the name" perhaps?

Ah the wars they will
be fought again
The holy dove
She will be caught again
bought and sold
and bought again
the dove is never free/.../
You can add up the parts
but you won't have the sum
You can strike up the march,
there is no drum

It's more than a line but... these are my favourite lines

Welcome to the Forum, Makera! Someone can help you out on the "bbCode" meaning, but it sure won't be me  . What song is that excellent line from? Thanks.

Wow...well here I am, with the dust settling from a long weekend ,laundry in a heap, vegetables falling off the vine crying to be picked...I cant get my head out of this forum!! (ooor this forum outta my head for that matter.)

I chose this particular thread because I thought I had my fav. Cohen line pegged, and for hours,I've been here copy and pasting like a mad woman!! (wrong again)

I now know, there isnt going to be a chance in hell <<<<<(can I say that here?) that I will be able to choose JUST ONE!

I am 42 , and I have just recently found Leonards music,(imagine if I hadnt!?) I feel I have already wasted so much TIMEEEE without it!

I am AMAZED impressed and touched at his understanding and perception of Love!! and ever so taken back that he can bring me in, and surround me with it, and help me to understand, that this....love.... is afterall why we are all here :) ...walking together ......

SO! Not having heard all of his songs yet and with a wish list a mile long  ...for today I will say my favorite line(s) isssssssssss......

eenie meenie miney mo!...hmmmm(this isnt EASY)

Through windows in the dark
the children come , the children go
Like arrows with no target
Like shackles made of snow

True love leaves no traces
if you and I are one
Its lost in our embraces
Like stars against the sun.
(or)
"Everything depends upon how near you sleep to me" (ugh that just melts me :) .....

I hope I managed to post this correctly and in the right spot. THANK YOU SO MUCH for being here!!............God! hes good ! isnt he ? :D

What a vibrant, refreshing, effervescent post you've managed to place here [with absolute correctness by the way]! Welcome to the Forum!

Eeney meeney miney mo....... :D ~ YEP!!! "God! he's good! isn't he? :D " ~ Yes! He's definitely all of that :D !

P.S. The laundry can wait  . Don't let the veggies go too long, though  . I'm glad you found him ~ and, it would seem, you are, too  8) :D .
