I dont care for the excesses of capitalism - and there are many - but its still the best system there is. Lets hope eventually the excesses will wear themselves out into something more benign.

But since that judge has granted Leonard a multimillion-dollar judgment
isn't "automatically" accepted that Lynch has commited the crime of fraud?

It is quite well known in Europe that when a man goes to prison in America he is always raped by all the other inmates. But what about when a woman goes to prison? What happens then?

The same thing can happen there, too... I worked in a women's prison for a while and the same dynamic of power and control exists there, too... particularly, when you have long-timers and a slight, pretty woman arrives.
For the newcomer to be able to successful navigate the system, favours, obtain protection from other inmates, etc. an older woman can make a newcomer their 'woman' by force or by 'choice.'

I wonder why the wardens don't make them wear chastity belts? As it stands at the moment, as far as I can ascertain, if Leonard chooses to press charges and make his successful civil lawsuit into a criminal case it could end up with Kelley coming out of prison as a lesbian.

I'm very pleased, as we all are, that the judgement vindicated Leonard Cohen, and, at least in principle, awarded him
some of his money back. Five million is far from the total stolen. And whether he will ever actually
get it back is an entirely different matter.
About him possibly not going on a singing tour... I sorta hope he doesn't. Not because I wouldn't go to a concert in the UK, because I WOULD! The recordings of live concerts that I have are vastly more powerful than studio recordings. But he is an aging man, and touring is, by all accounts, very physically, emotionally and mentally exhausting. I don't want him to put himself through that. It's enough for him to make studio recordings.
And besides... his voice is not what it was, is it? Could the voice take the amount of singing required by a tour? I doubt it. You have only to listen to Dear Heather (which I love, btw) to realise he no longer has the vocal resiliance to handle a singing tour.
I am 69, I do poetry readings, and they take a lot out of my voice - I will have to give up doing the readings very soon - so I have some very slight idea of how singing, on tour, could be too much for our Dear Leonard.
Ok, you may now yell at me.

Back to the issue of pressing criminal charges against Kelley, as we discussed earlier in another thread, if he voluntarily gave her such legal control over his assets that she could do what she wanted with them, how can he now claim she broke the law? Only the law of love and trust. Perhaps some skillful lawyer can find it on the books. Once again I ask, do we want Levitical law or the Golden Rule?

By using this paragraph:
"My Agent shall not be liable for any loss that results from a judgment error that was made in good faith. However, my Agent shall be liable for willful misconduct or the failure to act in good faith while acting under the authority of this Power of Attorney."

Hi Geoffrey ~
Chastity belts cannot rein in issues of power and control. Kissing and such also are not impacted by them.

Geoffrey,
I guess the lawyers will have to litigate whether or not it was a judgement error or willful misconduct. If she is deemed mentally incompentent, not able to tell right from wrong, then it was a judgement error, they will say.
Lizzy, I don't understand your last post.

Hi Lightning ~
Chastity belts relate to vaginal sex. Though sex may be part-and-parcel of the prison scene, the exertion of the power and control don't rely on them. Does that clarify it? If not, let me know, okay?

I don't understand what is being stated here, lizzy. Is it possible to start from the beginning and rephrase it.

Well, she said something about Leonard sitting in a bubble-bath during her managerial meetings with him. I thought that remark was a bit below the belt.

Why is it
the best system there is? Perhaps there are other ways men can go about their business. New ways. Ways that don't discriminate; that eliminate poverty. You only have to sit back and use your imagination. Leonard Cohen must have done this when he penned
'There'll be the breaking of the ancient western code' in
The Future. Odds on he was inferring capitalism. All mankind has ever had is dictatorships - even in democracy. Capitalism is competition. It contradicts all great religious teachings. It is greed - make more, make more, make more.
And how would these
excesses...wear themselves out into something more benign'? Did you watch the academy awards? Decadence! And that is what our kids aspire to. That and more material wealth and possessions, diamonds and breast enlargements. Capitalism has blinded our souls from the truth. We find comfort in our companies and bank balances; not in ourselves or in each other. How do these excesses
wear themselves out...it's getting worse.
After the Beatles split, John Lennon wrote a powerful song in the seventies. It was called
Power To The People. Unfortunately, we didn't listen then. We still don't listen now.

If Kelley is found guilty of "willful misconduct" while in possession of power of attorney what are the penalties and what is she charged with? Does anyone with legal knowledge know?
Does anyone here think it's justice to lock another human being in a cage or subject him or her to other forms of torture?
