Synchronicity
For further interest, I thought I'd add a quote from the editorial preface of the book I posted the exerpt from earlier on this thread: 'Synchronicity, An Acausal Connecting Principle'.
"Late in his life, Jung traced his idea of synchronicity to the influence of Albert Einstein, who held a professorship in Zurich in 1909-10 and again in 1912-13. Jung wrote, 'Professor Einstein was my guest on several occasions at dinner.....These were very early days when Einstein was developing his first theory of relativity, [and] it was he who first started me off thinking about a possible relativity of time as well as space, and their psychic conditionality. More than thirty years later, this stimulus led to my relation with the physicist Professor W. Pauli and to my thesis of psychic synchronicity.'
Jung first used the term 'synchronicity' only in 1930, in his memorial address for Richard Wilhelm, the translater of the I Ching, or Book of Changes. Jung was seeking to explain the modus operandi of the I Ching, which had first come across in the eary 1920's in an English translation by James Legge (1882) but, as he said, came to understand only when he read Wilhelm's version."
Interesting reference to translations, also.

Thanks for bringing the Synchronicity thread to me, Makera
. I had looked but could not find
.
This happened day before yesterday. I walked into the office of my friend, Ron, at work......he was looking at some photos his sister had sent him of his 6-year-old niece who had dressed up for Halloween, as one of the "can-can" girls from Moulin Rouge [bright red dress....and full make-up, incredibly well done]. He had just sent a couple photos of her to his friend in Germany, with whom he was on Instant Messaging with when I walked in. He and I were talking about what a great costuming job her mother had done for her, and his German friend commented that she looks like "The Twins" [he hadn't seen the costuming photo, just a regular one].
Ron didn't know who he meant, and said he had no idea who he was talking about. So, I reminded him of the two, high-profile, rich girls that are always in the news.....Tina and Lisa, or something like that. He remembered then. I returned to talking about her in her costume, and said there's an incredible resemblance [with her make-up and dress] to Jon-Benet Ramsey. He immediately agreed with that. I had other things to do, so then left.
A little over an hour later, he was having lunch in our break room [which he rarely does; generally leaves the office] and I walked in [which I rarely do at that point, as my lunch hour is close, but not quite]. He was watching one of the "entertainment expose" programs ~ the news about stars, the latest happenings in news events, etc. I sat down for a few minutes to watch it with him. After completing the current thing they were doing, before they went to commercial, they announced that coming up after commercial was segment on "The Twins" [giving their names and showing their pictures], and that on the next day's program, they would be doing a segment on Jon-Benet Ramsey.
We both looked at each other, stunned. He said, astonished, what I felt didn't even need saying, "Oh, my G~d, we were just talking about both of them!" [Especially since Jon-Benet is rarely even mentioned anymore.] Synchronicity worldwide, with split timing of events, all the way around!

I was waiting my turn for the car wash earlier this week.
I wondered how often a car gets stuck in a car wash.
I looked at the car in the car wash
and wondered what someone does when the car wash fails
I built a picture in my head of the car wash failing as I idly waited my turn....looking at the car wash
looking at the brushes washing the car in front of me
and then
the image in my head of the car wash failing
suddenly became real
and the brushes stopped in mid cycle
and the driver was stuck
I went to get help
It wasn't my fault

Synchronicity-- Louden Wainwright III
has a song about this. It relates to a date with a girl and her girlfriend. ( it seems that he didnt realize her gender preference) He said his brothers comment was perhaps he should have justasked if he could just watch instead of leaving) sorry if i mangaed to offend everyone with this but it was funny.

I love the rain. It washes all the bad memories off the sidewalks of life

While enjoying a superb concert last night (Jan Garbarek group) I fiddled with the stone in a ring I hadn't worn for a while, just to see if the stone was still there. My memory went back to the time a few years ago when I came home one evening to find the small diamond from my engagement ring had disappeared.
I mused for a short time about a similar thing happening again and what I would do.....the search and the possibility of an insurance claim.....Lo and behold, as we were leaving I discovered an empty hole in the place my blue topaz stone used to be. After searching the floor back in the concert hall, and retracing my steps it was luckilly found when some of the staff and myself emptied the bin of paper towels in the ladies' room

Paula
are you saying that you expect to be trapped in a car wash??
I won't follow you into one if that's any comfort
The driver ( isn't it strange how you presumed it was a male driver??
for it happened to be a lady driver ) got out safely.
I saw the drama unfurl and thought..'shall I leap in there, regardless of my own safety and desire to keep dry or shall I get help'.
She sounded her horn
and I went back into the garage shop to inform them and a young assistant came out and reset it all from some magic buttons at the entrance to the wash and was able to go into the wash and let the driver know that all was well.
Now .. did I then take my turn you all ask?
Yes, I was brave and I willed it all to work properly and came out with a clean car and lo and behold, 2 days later, our first snows appeared and my car is worse than ever now.. the snow on the road was pure and white to start with but eventually it turned to a shade of slush which now adorns my paintwork... oh well.
talking about the snow.. we went for a walk yesterday in the woods and I stood admiring the scene and a solitary piece of ice fell off a branch and hit me directly on the top of the head and bounced majestically to the ground. My wife laughed whilst I shouted at the baying branches.. 'why me???'
Paula.. don't walk in the woods after it snows.... don't go in a car wash before it snows... and don't throw snowballs at the top hats of the gentry in London Town
Pete
and Margaret.. that's what happens with rings from lucky bags
