After watching the XFactor on Saturday it occured to me that we should have adopted this song as our anthem at Barmouth

All the best

sorry Phil I don't think the lyrics quite cover the experiences we had....
......nowhere in the lyrics does it mention anything about an innocent young Liverpudlian being persuaded by a couple of very forceful Yorkshire folk that if he joined them walking backwards down the final stretch of Snowdon that if would help to relieve his poor suffering feet......the story of the 3 silly English people seen walking backwards down Mount Snowdon is I believe still told in the pubs in and around Llanberis......and just for the record after the humilation of having been forced to walk backwards it never did help his poor suffering feet.....ta ken

here is the proof, if proof were needed of my poor suffering foot.....

...my big toe became quite a cause célèbre among all the local toe doctors....and in the interests of medical science I was asked to provide a photo of the aforementioned toe with some form of scale included in the photo....as I didn't have a ruler or tape measure to hand I used a book by one of my German favourite authors instead.....ta ken

Point taken Ken but we could always change the title to : The backward Climb . By the way we never said it would help your feet we just suggested it as a form of reverse psychcology or should that be backward psychology

Cheers Phil

So Henning wrote that book about Bob?
It is obvious he is not a huge fan then, if he put a picture of Keith Richards on the cover instead of Bob. :)
I wonder what mascara Keith uses.... it seems to last a helluva lot longer than mine

Tinders....
Despite years in the closet denying the fact I can assure you that ever since he was outted that Herr Franz is now a proud Bobcat....he has made up for his years of denial by becoming one of the foremost and respected writers on the life, times and genius of Mr Dylan.
Here are copies of the other two books in his trilogy that cover the career of the prophet's work from 1960 up to and including the release of Time Out Of Mind in 1997. I believe the author is currently working on his next volume to cover the last fantastically productive 10 years of Mr Dylan's ever expanding oeuvre.

As for the subject of mascara .....Mr Dylan uses only a blusher these days (Rimmel's Mono Blush Rose Pink I believe) and then only for his stage appearances...not since the heady days of the Rolling Thunder Tour in the late seventies has he used mascara..........

This morning, Wednesday 23rd December, two men went onto Snowdon.

They were wearing trainers, and track suits.

They did not have crampons, boots, whistles, torches, maps, warm clothes, waterproof clothes, or any idea of were they were when they got lost.

Later this afternoon they were rescued by the 'Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team' and a Rescue Helicopter from 'RAF Valley' on Anglesey. They had to be airlifted off the mountain.

They are from Warrington. They probably have 2 brain cells between them !

If they had not been found, they would be dead by now.

Words cannot explain how I feel about these two men !!!!!!

I cannot praise the bravery and dedication enough of their rescuers. 8)

I know personally some who work in mountain rescue (Brecon MR) and they are dedicated people, as are those who work for the RNLI. Here's to all those who volunteer to be on call at a moment's notice to venture out into sometimes uncertain conditions to save others' lives.

Thanks for one of the most memorable weekends of 2009, you walkers. If we were back in the Royal, I'd be anticipating this number from Ewan (he'd do better than Mud I am sure). Happy Christmas. Peace.

No 2 son has lent us his dvd boxset of The Prisoner series.
We've got as far as episode 4 but sometimes I don't concentrate on the plot because i'm busy reminiscing when admiring the location. Liz is fed up of me shouting out...'I was there!!' 'That's where I had an ice cream!' 'The tide was out when we were there!' 'Hey, there's the castle where we had our meal!' etc etc
I think she's going to hit me soon :)

Hi All,
Decided to start walking yesterday so I'll survive the German mountains in 2011, and to get rid of the effects of Saturday's excesses.
I walked in the park where I walked in preparation for Cader Idris and Snowdon.
It was great (hint hint to everyone!)and brought back memories of last summer and made me feel good.

My photos aren't great but I kept expecting the beast of Croxteth Park to appear.

Ewan was in touch a few weeks ago.
Him and Lisa are still in Barmouth and asked to be remembered to everyone.
They're still at The Royal but because of the lack of tourists etc it hasn't been open very often.
They're looking to move on, and will keep in touch.

I am sure Henning promised there wouldn't be any mountains on his mountain walking weekend . Can we have a clarification on this so I can start wearing my walking boots when I go walk to the pub . Great photogragh

Hi Dave & Phil,
Good idea on the return to the walking regime. Bascom Hill awaits me as soon as the first few feet of snow melt away.

Great that you heard from Ewan-give him and Lisa our best when you hear from him again.

Phil, Henning told me that we were only going to walk in valleys in Germany-wait that means that we will have to climb out of them eventually-well I'm sure that he will figure it out.
