Well this just goes to show that even men who appreciate poetry find humour in such crap (pun not intended  ) . Time to let the thread die now maybe.

Humble apologies Diane I think a collective ban on the above subject would be in order but let's not be hasty and let the thread die what I am going to do with myself on a night time while Jean is watching Eastenders !

Gliding down the Mekong River through Laos a couple of years ago. Aboard the river bus, which the locals use to carry them and their rice, chickens, piglets, and the only way to journey because the roads were/are poor quality and dangerous (Rebels had recently shot dead 2 Swiss Tourists) we took 2 days to get from A to B. The toilet facility consisted of a raised platform at the rear of the boat. It was separated from view by a very flimsy cloth that afforded 'some' privacy. The actual toilet was a hole in a plank that jutted out from the back of the boat. The name for this sewage system was 'The Long Drop.' Now that's what I call an interesting national feature. No 'plop' onto a flat Germanic ceramic bowl, but a loud 'splosh' that everyone could hear. Ah, the joys of foreign travel. To be honest, it was a fantastic couple of days travelling along the river and seeing how life was lived on its banks. The river was full of all manner of fish, including what we call in Liverpool, 'Brown Trout.'

OK Phil. I hate to think of you with nothing to do in your Eastenders exile. You caught my bad mood this morning after my bike frame cracked. By the way, I noticed the beds had seen better days in that cheap seafront guesthouse you finished up in after you got chucked out of the Sandpiper:

bar7.jpg
Byron I'm happy to say that my yacht, the one what I travelled to Barmouth in, has better facilities. But speaking of men from Lancashire, your story reminds me of Mike Harding's story of when he travelled in Nepal suffering from a severely bad belly and had only shacks suspended over streams to use.

Tinds Happy Halloween:-) In your pic - that was when Paula didn't want her vegetables so I had them. I was so happy to eat, unwilling to pay the Royal's post-6pm menu prices (later went to the chippie). And that is the actual truth of (some of) what was happening there!

ps These structures on the beach were really derelict trampolines. They seem like a good metaphor but I'm wondering what for.

Diane..this is the true version...nothing to do with vegetables :D
This photo was taken during one of the party games we played...in this case 'Musical Chairs' Ewan had been singing 'All Shook Up' and when he stopped mid-verse everyone rushed to a seat.
Diane was very pleased as she had already won the previous 15 games and was still in pole postion for this one. Dave was equally delighted as he had grabbed the high chair for the third time running.
You will notice that Paula is pretending to sit down on an imaginary seat for which Henning and Jean are both berating her. Paula remains amused but doesn't realise that she didn't see the empty seat next to Joe.
Joe is wondering why no one fought him out the way for the middle seat.. little did he realise at the time that this seat means that he has to pay a forfeit. This he did with good grace at the next game of 'Pin the Tail on the Donkey' ......................
The eagle eyed ones amongst you will notice that there happens to be a spare seat..which is not supposed to happen during musical chairs. The truth is that Bernadine and Tim both went for the same chair at the same time and fighting broke out. Fortunately it did not mar the proceedings as they spilled out on to the street and across the railway track and onto the beach. Unfortunately the tide was in and they got wet.
It was decided that the game be abandoned and Ewan resumed his rendition of 'All Shook Up'. Tim and Bernadine returned one hour later, all shook up...and wet, but this only served to enhance the evening and set the tone for the rest of the weekend.

The following evening it was decided to play 'Pass the Parcel' but in the absence of a parcel we passed Ken's bag around. I'm afraid to report that this also ended up in chaos because Ewan stopped singing 'Love me Tinders' when Bernadine and Tim both had their hands on Ken's bag. This resulted in another fight which spilled out on to the street and over the railway track and onto the beach. Unfortunately the tide was out and they got sand in the places where they used to play.

I completely agree with Diane and Pete about this thread turning into nothing less than a depository for low-minded lavatory humour. So in an attempt to bring us back to our previous subject of Mountains and Moustaches here is a photo of me complete with moustache and in my prime on some mountain or other in North Wales.

A little bird in the publishing world tells me that Mountains and Moustaches is also the working title of Mr Needham's sequel to his bestselling novel The Diamond's Mine. Exclusive extracts from the new book have been kindly uploaded on this thread by the author himself.

I have unselfishly offered up this photo gratis for use on the front cover of Mountains and Moustaches but still have had no reply from either Mr Needham or his publisher.

no pressure Mr Needham but here is a mock up for your forthcoming novel Mountains and Moustaches which I'm told will be available in all good book shops sometime in not too far future

:) :) I cannot wait for the sequel to your book Pete... and Diane thinks this thread should die? There are too many stories still to be told, I have a feeling this thread will be still going by the time we all get to Munich and the 2 threads will merge as one .

What were you saying here Pete that was so interesting?

Pete was just mentioning the fact there were loads of arrows but he couldn’t see the Indians although one of the arrows did knock Ken’s hat slightly askew

I was trying to get everyone in pairs ... boy - girl so that we could form an orderly arrangment before entering Portmerion.
But the boys wouldn't hold hands with the girls because they thought it was sissy and the girls wouldn't stop giggling because they'd never held hands with boys before and didn't want to have babies.
christophes%20photos%20of%20Wales%20102%20(Small).jpg
I nearly got Joe to hold Paula's hand but, as you can see, she folded her arms. Ken wanted to hold hands with Joe instead but I wasn't having any of that. I told Joe to put his hand somewhere safe ...I think he preferred that.
It was soon after this picture that I found Paula crying in her soup at the meal. She really did want to hold hands with Joe but hadn't brought her gloves. She did have a pair of mittens in her bag but I confirmed with her that these would not have offered 100% protection.

So all in all I was unsuccessful and fell into a state of despair. Despair wouldn't hold hands and thatpair wouldn't hold hands and it was all quite an embarrassing exhibition for which I apologised to passing onlookers.

Diane and Tim...I tried to help the day go smoothly but these childish actions ruined it and I hope they're ashamed of themselves.

Ken - I thank you for your preview of the cover of the sequel to 'The Diamond's Mine' but the storyline I have in mind does not involve moustaches. I am already working to a tight deadline and it's touch and go if I can complete it on time...it's going to be a close shave.
