Hi Hartmut,
You are unequivocally correct. Had a song other than "Democracy" in mind, though.
That other one has a line with a word that can mean more than one thing, including
something to do with television.

Hi Steven,
'Tube', maybe?

Hi Hartmut,
Yes, "Going Home" with its "tube" reference is another correct answer. The song I'm
seeking, though, still hasn't been identified. -- The particular line in that song also
mentions two financially different sectors.

Hi Steven,
My guess is: Tower of Song

Hi,
The answers of uncleerwinone and holydove are correct. The song and line provided by holydove are
what I had in mind. Thank you uncleerwinone and holydove.

This is a multi-question hunt, pertaining to one particular theme - I hope it's not too much; I think most of them will be very easy, & thought it's an interesting theme that's worth mentioning, & thought it might be fun - I hope it is & hope I'm not overstepping the non-existent rules!
Name 2 songs where permission, or directive, to speak is given; one song where permission or directive to speak is withheld; & one song where permission or directive to speak is potentially withheld & potentially given.

I think the third song is 'If It Be Your Will'. - But I have no ideas for the first and the second song.

Hi Rachel, Here's what I guessed and it seems that Hartmut has the same idea for the last song
1a. That is to SAY what I have told him ~ Going Home
& But he does say what I tell him ~ Going Home
1b. Your servant here, he has been told
to say it clear, to say it cold ~ The Future
2. It's just that I can't speak ~ Coming Back To You
3. If it be your will
That I speak no more
And my voice be still
As it was before
I will speak no more
I shall abide until
I am spoken for
If it be your will ~ If It Be Your Will

Thank you, Hartmut & Bev - well done!!
You are both right about the 3rd song. The verse Bev quoted is the one I thought of for the "potentially withheld" directive, & for the potentially given directive, I was thinking of: "If it be your will/ that a voice be true/ from this broken hill/ I will sing to you". But since the permission is "potentially" given/withheld in both verses, the first verse can certainly suffice for both.
Bev, you are absolutely right about 1a & 1b (I love how you numbered them!). You are also right about the song for #2; I was mainly thinking of the verse: "and they're handing down my sentence now/ & I know what I must do/ another mile of silence. . ." - because in that line, there seems to clearly be some kind of authoritative source that is demanding silence; but I also thought of "it's just that I can't speak", as a line that people might think of more readily, & that line also works just fine.
(I was about to declare that question "unfit for consumption", & withdraw it, so now I'm glad I didn't & I thank you both for your patience & perseverance!)

Thanks Rachel, Glad you liked my numbering system! And don't worry if people take time to answer - there can be many varied reasons for it.
I don’t have a question in mind so here’s one on the spot now -
Name a song that is definitely not about secrets!

Hi B4real,
"Everybody Knows" is definitely not about secrets, unless
what everybody knows is the result of
secrets having been disclosed.

Hi,
In what song does a character fail to make eye contact?
