I want to alert every one to the fact that the County Manager of Sligo , Mr Hubert Kearns, has not issued a permit for the concerts in Lissadell.
I would urge everyone to email
info@sligococo.ie and let them know how you feel about this. We all want to see Leonard Cohen in Sligo...lets fight for it. Don't let power-mad paid officals dictate .
Thur, June 17th, Jeney replied : regardless of carlowmike's response to the above alert it may be a good idea for members of the LCF to email
info@sligococo.ie to let them know how we feel about political interference in this joyous occasion.
I will be contacting LC Fan Clubs today to act on this. jeney
I will contact Sligo County Manager, Hubert Kearns and Council officials this morning and request official clarification on the matter, but Members and Fans can be reassured now that the Leonard Cohen Concerts in Sligo will be held on the planned dates at Lissadell
.

lets not get over excited regarding this licence situation, the licence will be issued as soon as some very minor land issues are resolved, THE SHOWS WILL GO ON.

Regarding the previous Posts the following Email was received by me this morning from Keith McNair.
Mike
I have read the recent post on the Leonard Cohen Forum which raised a question as to whether or not the concert at Lissadell would proceed.
Let me quote the headline from the news article in this weeks Sligo Champion to which the question refers, this report makes very clear that everything is falling into place.
“Minor details to be resolved, but concert's licence to be issued shortly”.
“The licence for the Lissadell concerts on August Bank Holiday weekend is expected to be issued shortly, County Manager Hubert Kearns told councillors on Monday.”
Councillor Bree, who was debating with the county manager said: “It promises to be a wonderful holiday weekend …”
I think Wendy’s comments reflect a perfect understanding of the granting of concert licences and in Sligo’s case the licence should be issued very soon, as stated by the County Manager.
Regards
Keith

Event license applications are like planning applications. The information lodged will not always be to the liking of the local authorities therefore the nitty gritty has to be resolved before any grant of license can be issued. This is standard procedure and with most outdoor concerts, the issuing of licence may not be done up untill a few weeks before the show but does be issued.
And also, think about it, it would be very stupid of the council to refuse a licence in the current climate. The 3 shows at lissadel will generate a small fortune to the local community.

Correct keanrn5y but matters in Sligo were furthermore complicated by the "right-of-way" High Court action as mentioned by jammymulligan in above extract from his Post of last night.
Best let matters rest for now, as all licence issues regarding the Concerts appear to be resolved at this stage.
The Mayor of Sligo is due to issue a Statement on the misunderstanding later today.

Think 'silence is golden' at this stage. Dont feel its helpful to make comments about things we have no control over--leave it to the appropriate parties to sort out the details. All will be well

If the weather at end of July is anything like the past week here in Ireland
it will be an added bonus.
Any idea of the long term weather forecast ? jeney

From Irish Independent today.
This case will not affect the schedule for Concerts.
Lissadell legal row case costs.
Saturday June 19 2010
LEGAL costs run up during the 58-day High Court hearing of a dispute over rights of way through the historic Lissadell Estate in Sligo are believed to have reached €6m.
The hearing concluded yesterday and Mr Justice Bryan McMahon said he would give his judgment later.
In what was one of the most protracted legal rows to have come before the High Court, 52 witnesses gave evidence.
Lissadell's owners, barristers Edward Walsh and his wife Constance Cassidy brought the case against Sligo County Council. In a counterclaim, the council sought a declaration that the four routes involved are subject to a right of way in favour of the public.
The historic estate was the former home of Countess Constance Markievicz and was frequented by poet WB Yeats.

Apologies in advance, this post is designed to be helpful but it is also market driven! We have a beautiful 4 bedroom family home on the edge of Lissadell estate and it's available from Friday to Sunday (30th July - 1st Aug. inclusive). Ample parking, perfect for a family, has a childrens playground, playroom etc. It looks out over Benbulbin and is walking distance for the concerts- no need for taxis, bus shuttles etc. Interested parties please email
edonlon1@gmail.com.
Hope everyone travelling to Sligo enjoys our beautiful county and especially the wonderful events that July weekend.
