I'm wondering if this incident and awry comment may be a sign of burnout with her. Even though the rewards are many and an inspired teacher is worth his or her weight in gold, it's a very personally tasking process. It seems plausible that she may be within the range of burnout.

You're right. It would be jarring.

This lends to my thoughts regarding possible burnout in that arena:
. . . coming from a person that I know in other capacities to be conscientious,
competent and personally dynamic.
