Hi Kevin ~ yes, well, who would expect such craziness!? It is a very funny business!

With respect to your question about the marketing efforts/support given Nellie, I have no specific knowledge. There is a discussion board, http://www.velvetrope.com , which is populated by industry insiders - along with plenty of pretenders, that can make for very interesting reading about such things. I do recall there being a number of threads about Nellie - and her arc at Sony. Unfortunately, "The Velvet Rope" search engine is one of that site's poorest features. Still, if you sign-up, login, and have the patience to try and wend your way through the engine, to then digest the posts, which can be rude and crude, at times pointless and mean-spirited, and other times very insightful and illuminating, it could well be worthwhile.

It seems safe to conclude that when "Get Away from Me" was made, and the legendary Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick helmed the production, there was plenty of support in place for Nellie - and, then, a game plan went south.

The mix of financial and political ingredients needed to land songs on commercial radio are well detailed in a newly published book, "Dirty Little Secrets of the Music Business" by Hank Bordowitz. It's a great primer - and, may be worth the investment of dollars and reading time - depending on how much you may want the answers to the seemingly inexplicable.

I'm happy to hear you've enjoyed what you've seen of Allison's vids at YouTube. You'll find song files on her website should you wish to hear more. Scared - yes, I'm a big fan of that song. It's one that Allison hears with some more instrumentation, but, as yet, the right opportunity and band has not been present to realize that particular vision. (Which is more of a background notes statement - it's not to say that Scared is not to be enjoyed as it exists!) The audio to the vid you've heard is live - and is one of the very first of Alley's recordings.

Well, enough from me! best wishes to all!! may each day be full of music,

cheers, Ad

Anjani "Blue Alert". An exquisite album that has brought a quality of perception back into my life that I doubted I would ever experience again.
Listening to this has helped me to fully appreciate "Dear Heather", which (unlike all Leonard's other albums) I had only played a few times.

Josh Ritter - Animal Years
Each song seems to be telling a story and the lyrics are better than ever . Moreover , his voice is one of the most relaxing I've ever heard .

Taylor Mill's "Lullagoodbye" (for those who don't don't her, Taylor is the blonde girl in Brian Wilson's band). My album of 2006 was Anjani's "Blue Alert".
