after studying these recent messages, i have been reading articles and looking at various videos on youtube. when i get free time, which is not too often, i like to draw - a pastime that seems to temporarily heal wounds. you have given me a lot of pieces to a jigsaw, and as soon as i have connected the ones that fit, and also have time to spare, i will try to make a comment or two. thank you so much for the energy you are using.
meanwhile, another 'happy' sketch

Geoffrey, if you have not already read it you should read "Seven Mysteries of Life" by Guy Murchie, it contains some of the missing jigsaw puzzle pieces.

Goodness, all that existential angst, because of recent messages? No need for any of that! All my post aimed to do was to explain how an otherwise logical, rational person could justify and explain a belief in faith, spirituality, "god", what-have-you. It is not "either-or" -- one can have both, if they are so inclined. That's all I was saying.
Incidentally, some people do not require such justifications or explanations, for themselves or for others -- it is simply good enough for them that they or others believe the things that they believe, for any or no reasons at all. However, you, Geoffrey, made comments that seemed to imply that intelligent, rational, logical people are not likely to be "believers", and I was simply pointing out that some of them are, and further, that some of them have actually thought about it enough to come up with an intelligent explanation for it. Not only have I read about such people, but I have actually known a few, and I can assure you that they exist.
I shall refrain from engaging in a pointless discussion about the meaning of life: as far as I am concerned, each person has to figure that out for themselves, in whatever ways they do or can. If one can't figure it out -- if one can't find the pieces to the puzzle -- well, there's nothing I can say to enlighten them. Some of us have all the pieces we need, others never will, and never the twain shall meet.

That sounds like something solongleonard would write, transcribing a south-London accent, and actually meant to be read as "apologies for
sale". When I first saw your post, I wondered why you felt, (a) the need to provide apologies, and (b) the need to sell them.
Incidentally, "sile" is not a word that made its way across the pond to the colonies -- I had to look it up. I found numerous suggestions, but, considering the context of what has been written here recently, I shall go with this one: "British dialectal, Northern England:
to pour with rain". Am I close? (And, if so, how melodramatic of you!)
Cheers, me old china!

Oh, well that takes all the fun out of it. Nonetheless, my initial interpretation probably still has some validity!

well, i didn't realise we came here to have
fun. i think of this place as a centre for cultural development! anyway, everybody can relax now, i am back, at least for a few days before going down to see lahcen in oslo. i came home at 4:30am, birds already awake, a dawn chorus to a golden sun that seemed to be spreading syrup over the snowy mountains. i have been thinking a lot about electrons, neutrons and quarks, about DNA structures, about mechanics making cakes and chefs repairing cars. someone told me they had nothing, but that didn't seem logical, because they do have something, they have nothing - and that is the building block from which everything comes. here is a picture taken a couple of days since, at a place called olden, near stryn.

People have been contemplating the nature of "nothing" probably for as long as people have been contemplating anything: Parmenides, in the 5th century BCE, was the first on record to do so (that we know of), but I imagine that, for enquiring minds, it may have been a topic of thought, discussion and debate before that. As for what "nothing" is or isn't, no consensus has ever been reached.
I was struck by your oddly assertive comment that
"[nothing] is the building block from which everything comes": that is hardly a fact, and it is actually highly debatable -- it is simply one suggested possibility (and an oh-so biblical one, at that), which certainly not everyone buys into. Creationist-Big-Bang theorists (same thing) do not hold a monopoly on "How the Universe Came Into Being" -- I have noticed that you often express their ideas as if they are are incontrovertible facts, but I assure you that they absolutely are not, and that there are many learned people who question and even disagree with them. Therefore, you may wish to expand your reading material/video choices beyond that which reflects the narrow-minded mainstream/Fox News bias -- there are other options out there that provide very different explanations and understandings of the universe, and which are as compelling and possible as those which you seem to favour. (Of course, I have no idea if any of these theories are right or wrong or both -- I do not believe that such knowledge is knowable. I am inclined towards certain points of view, and disinclined towards others, but what those are may change as I evolve as a person, and mostly, I remain skeptical.)

Having looked at the beautiful scenery of Olden in the Youtube link you provided, two thoughts came to mind: 1) I was reminded of the scenery in the Canadian Rockies, a place I love and which is so close to my heart; and 2) with all that natural beauty that you could have photographed and posted for our viewing pleasure, you gave us (yet another) photo of your grizzled mug (in which the landscape has been blurred beyond recognition). Thanks for nothing!
P.S. In case it is unclear, my comments about the nature of nothing and associated views can be considered in the category of "cultural [-- or rather,
intellectual] -- development", whereas my comments about your photo would be in the category of "fun". I like to have a balance -- "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".

Geoffrey, I rather like the photo, thanks for sharing it. If you were to write a book or assemble a collection of art, that is the photo that should appear on the cover. I like the background--troubled sky or ocean, hard to discern which.

thank you, lisa and curt, for the interest you take in my person. little time to write at the moment, only draw. for some inexplicable reason the people in my real-life circle never seem to tire of being with me. the short period alone before bedtime is precious.

your ice cream vans are so different from those here in Russia. We have adverts atop ours rather than your more subtlerer number plates.
I repeat my apology posted in response to your recent myspace comment, Geoffrey.
Further, I am not able to join the fun here regularly as I have just started a new relationship.
Only a couple of weeks until I meet her for the first time. It's thrilling to date someone more famous than myself

listen, i don't recommend
anyone getting as popular and well-liked as me, because you get
NO time to yourself. i have so many ideas and things to do but all everybody wants to do is party, and they always want me there. looking so forward to getting onboard that ship on wednesday afternoon!!!!!
picture by a passer-by after i came out from the doctor's. my car is a write-off but i am fine, just a damaged foot. i was writing on my phone for someone to come and get me and a lady took my picture. i said ok but only if you send me a copy. it was a horrible accident at glomset, no houses nearby, no signal for the phone, the suspension broke and went through the front tyre but i had a belt on. now i am expected to attend a new party in two hours at 12:00 noon
