Dear Jarkko.
How wonderful that you set this group up, and that now it unites so many of us. It has become my best source of information. This particular post from Leonard was truly one of the best. ...and that is owed to you. Thank you Chrissie

To imagine one's name being read by Leonard Cohen, aloud. A perfect gift.

I guess most of us feel humbled to get that response

We shouldn't be too greedy and go beyond imagination but in time a recording of leonard reading out the names and a picture of him sitting on the bench would be :D :D :D

So glad he's still a nonsmoker

Jarkko, thanks for passing on Leonard's sweet comments. Upon reading them, it is hard to touch the ground, feel like one who is walking on air!
Thank you for providing this wonderful place where one can be constantly awed by the heart-warming thoughts, ideas, actions of the participants here: all expressions of love for Leonard. And now his loving reply! I feel honored to be able to participate in my tiny way. I AM going to sit on that bench someday!

So happy about Leonard's kind response, and glad that he will reject smoking for another ten years! Long live Leonard!
Linda

What a lovely and heart warming reply!

Jarkko - would it be too much to ask that the birthday greeting and list of names sent be made available to us all?

Guy

If only I could once tell him personally how much he changed my life, how he helped me through my darkest hours. I owe him so much. His music helped me through my divorce, my numerous operations, my months of depression, the heart breaking moments when my son emigrated to, yes, Canada . He is my guide. There is always comfort in his music and his poetry. May this man live forever or at least outlive me. Thank you Leonard for being here.

Deeply touched by Leonard's words...
Happy to hear that Leonard is still waiting to smoke again.
Thank you so much, Jarkko, for all you've done.

Thank you to Mr. Cohen for kindly acknowledging and thank you to Jarkko for all this. Since the idea of a musical on Broadway raised is tantalizing head (in another thread of this forum) I keep thinking about it as the most wonderful idea, and I see you, Jarkko, as a character leading a choir of fans on the stage at some moment in the play.

THE BENCH: Dear Mr. Cohen. You really should not have bothered to read my name. I hate the idea that you spent your precious time because of me.

SMOKING: Dear Mr. Cohen. May I say that I am disappointed. I never thought you were a guy who tries a puff and gives up. I believed you had more endurance.

DEAR FRIEND: Dear Mr. Cohen. Thank YOU for the countless times you have lifted my spirit. Thank YOU for the comfort and the encouragement.

May you always be loved and blessed,
Harald

I will visit that bench! Thank you so much, Jarkko and Leonard. Relieved to hear about the smoking...it won't do anything for your voice...

May you both be forever loved and blessed.

Sasha K.

SMOKING

I took a puff the other night.
Didn't like it.
Maybe try again come 90.

I'm listening to "Old Ideas" and this line from "Darkness" made me think - is Leonard fulfilling his own prophesy?
"I don’t smoke no cigarette"

I'm so pleased that he didn't like it.
I hope he is still singing to us in that "golden voice" until he is past 90.
