Only a week until your birthday and if you are at all like I think you are, it will be a rather quiet affair. Still--I do want to wish you another year of good health, happiness, and enjoyment of the things that make living worth it. Perhaps a dear friend will bake you a cake, if that is what you like, or serve you a glass of your favourite beverage with figs and cheese. Maybe you will listen to some great music on the radio --if you still listen to the radio. I wonder if CBC will play a song for you. They ought to! Whatever it is, however, and with whomever, dear Leonard and many happy returns.

And for the poems, the words of wisdom, and those joyous concerts.

I suspect you will be glad to have a quieter birthday this year - you did say "You need in life a mixture of solitude and carnival", so I hope next Wednesday and the years to come bring you just the right mixture of both!
