They immortalised him in bronze. As though he needed it.

As twilight approached, like the all day rain, their unfailing love of him did not wane. They sat and sipped. They hugged and kissed. Beneath the starless sky they parted.

And all the while a quiet reverence encompassed them.
I'm loving it ,
Wish I had been there with you all !
I have been a lurker on this site for awhile but today I become one of you Leonard Cohen fine people..
I am looking out for Kildare and Offaly interests in Sligo >>
Our meet-up is for fans from both counties
but members from this forum will be welcome to join us at anytime in Shenanigans Bar and Restaurant, Bridge Street, Sligo. (www.shenanigans.ie).

75 Days To Go ~~

Spoke to Trish Cunningham today, who along with her husband, Sean, owns Shennigans Bar in Sligo.

Shenanigans is situated across the road from The Garavoge.

Jean Casey and Ron Medulison have named Shenanigans as the meeting place for people connected to
Fan Clubs based in various counties ( Premises holds about 400 people).
Details concerning this arrangement will be published in local newspapers.
They have told me that Members of The Leonard Cohen Forum will be welcome to join in.
This is a good thing as it takes some of the pressure off The Garavoge.

I have not seen any further information on, if in fact we can get Maarten to do name tags for this one (Puleeeeze, Maarten!). They are wonderful and such a great memento and enable us forum members to spot one another among the 10K that will be attending on each of these days. They will also give you a better idea of how many of the concert-goers will be actual forum members. Can we please still do these?

Kindest regards,
MaryB
Yes Maarten will be doing nametags, I was in touch with him today.
We are arranging for him to set up his dispatch section in
The Library Bar of The Garavogue meet-up Venue in Sligo .

Those who have ordered some can collect them there and pay him on collection.
More news on Parking facilities , bus links etc. later today , :) carlowmike.

Yeah to Maarten!!!
Thank you for doing the name tag project for Sligo!
I will always treasure the ones I already have as they hang over my mirror and one I wear to work with my work name tag on it.
The designs are so creative.
Thanks again Maarten.

74 Days To Go.

Parking near Venue news and details on the Dinner will be coming on this thread tomorrow.
Some matters regarding same have yet to be finalised.
NEWS.
Sean Cunningham (owner of Shenanigans) attended a meeting last night of Sligo business people,
They have one question for Members of this Forum and for fans of Leonard Cohen:

Are there any suggestions as to how they can contribute to this coming Event to make the weekend a memorable and happy occasion for all of Leonard's fans. ?.

this is a serious question and deserves only positive answers, Please. :?:

This morning they consulted a Sligo jeweller requesting that he design a badge with logo and inscription "Heart's Desire" on plated gold to commemorate the Event.

They asked if it might be possible to present a special issue to Leonard, I have forwarded this request to the appropriate quarter, ;-) carlowmike.
PS. MOST OF THE PUBS IN SLIGO WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL 2.30 am OVER THE WEEKEND. :D As yet there is no data available on late-opening Restaurants :!:

Hi all,
No need to thank me for the nametags, you all know I enjoy doing this! I'll start a thread where you can "subscribe" for a nametag and send me your info soon. Meanwhile: enjoy the prospect of yet another great Cohen Summer!

Regards,
Maarten
From Maarten today, stayed tuned for updates ~~~~~

I have a suggestion ______________

Have limited car parking near the concert venue.

All concert goers should avail of the shuttle buses from Sligo town and the surrounding area.

Leave the driving to the professionals, who know the narrow roads, insuring steady traffic,

and a speedy return journey.

Whilst doing our little bit for the enviornment and the ground life in the fields.

Plus I believe Leonard would be mighty pleased with our efforts.

Please pass this suggestion to Mr Cunningham and to all car-driving fans.

Thanks again Mike :) for all your information. This Sligo-Help link is a massive help to all of us, old members, new members, plain members and (I know) many, many non-members. Bless the work. Jeney.

Not wanting to put a damper on this but have you tried finding a parking space in Sligo...? It's severely limited, and difficult before the influx of 10,000 of us.... there would need to be an "out-of-town" Park & Ride venue, I think.... and would it include those already travelling by coach/minibus? I know of a number travelling down from Donegal.... I assume there's more from other parts of Ireland.... and traffic (including those coaches!) approaching from the North would have to go past the venue, to get to the shuttle buses....

My plan is to allow plenty of time, and aim to get there when the gates open (with that Champagne picnic... ;-) )

Another good suggestion from real-alan, keep them coming...
All postive suggestions will be placed before the "Together For Sligo" committee (formed by Sligo business people to coordinate events surrounding the Concert) at their meeting on Tuesday next
.

I think what I was hinting at ;-) was the notion of an out-of-town park & ride venue might actually be at Lissadell... (in which case we wouldn't need the "ride" element) - Shuttle buses from Sligo, for those who are in & around the town will be invaluable, but it wouldn't be a great idea to bring more traffic into the town on the day as there's nowhere to park.... if all "out of town" traffic has to head for one place, where better than the venue...?
