Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to come to Hydra in 2005, but I will certainly attend the Event in 2006 and will take my 20 yo daughter with me - she is also a devoted Cohen fan.

I just got an email from easyjet.com to say they will start selling summmer flights in about 2 weeks

I found last time that the Easyjet flight gets in too late to make Hydra the same day thus forcing a night in the hell hole masquerading as a civilised city that is Athens. Those who got the BA flight were able to go straight to the Island. I cannot emphasise too much the importance of getting straight to the paradise that is Hydra. To adapt one of our great poems "Come friendly bombs and fall on Athens, it isn't fit for humans now". To call it Third World would be insulting to many Third World countries. EU membership? We must be mad. Might as well make Mexico the 51st State.

I've heard much about the upgrading of Athens since the advent of the Olympics. Aren't you at least curious as to whether you can abandon an old, stereotyped view?

Personally, spending a night in Athens sounds great to me. Though, missing a night on Hydra causes a bit of consternation. I don't think you'll mind, though

I was given a tip to get a night flight to Athens in order to go straight to Piraes for the morning ferries after, having a leisurely breakfast at the harbour there, so no need for an overnight stop in Athens.

Here here Lizzie. I am not adverse to a night in Athens.

I am certainly going to go with the flow and have left my destiny in others capable hands, as mine are shaking too much.

~ It's also good to know that, if we feel compelled, we'll have someone to share hotel costs for the night. Then, with your hangover intact, we can board the boat in the morning. Demetris may care to join us for a night in Athens, as well

I enjoyed Athens when I was last there, almost twice as long ago as you were, Linmag. D'ya think maybe it went from better to worse and now back to better, again? Did you hear all the media coverage of the massive changes the Olympics brought to Athens, in almost every way imaginable?

It has to be better than when I last looked out from the Acropolis at a haze of pollution hanging over the city - doesn't it?

Also, I was staying in an un-air-conditioned youth hostel in August, which may have had a bearing on my lasting impression of the city
