WARNING : The following post WILL cause great offence to many on this board, far more so than you are accustomed to. So, my little lambs, don't go bleating at me afterwards. You brought it on yourselves.
Can you not find it in your heart to encourage even pretend poets?
George(s)
If i ever find a heart i might give it a go, but i suggest you read on dear boy.
I love Leonard and his "art"
Coco
Very wise of you to use the inverted commas. The scribbles masquerading as paintings and drawings the master does are no better than a kindergartner. I think he laughs himself silly every time you lot take them seriously.
Most "modern" artists can't draw...they will not put in the time and discipline that it takes to master the basics..because they can't wait to be "creative." That's why there's so much crap out there masquerading as art.
Moonlight.
I couldn't agree more. This does though bring us back to certain aspiring "lousy little poets" on this board. George(s), you are not a pretend poet. You are an assault on poetry, an affront to every great poet who has gone before you. You and your fellow heretics on this board have taken no time to consider your 'art'. You have absolutely no grasp of stanza, rhyme schemes, structure, form, alliteration, assonance, simile, metaphor, and imagery. That was not an exhaustive list. The poets you claim to admire take great time and care in their work. You pore out any drivel that comes in to your mind and think it is worthy of consideration. However, before you start choking on your cocoa i only point all this out because of the themes of this thread. It seemed rather apt.
Do have a very merry Xmas.

And now the best for last in this festive season.................
Suzanne Elrod is not the Suzanne that Leonard was ever with. She was married to a friend of his, and he and she were friends. The song was written about her. However, the Suzanne that he could be considered as having been with, is the Suzanne who is the mother of his children, Adam and Lorca.

Some things are boundless, like the universe. The Tysh's ignorance is one of them. I for one never cease to be amazed at the vast sweep of it. It is all encompassing. Now, there might be a reason. It may not have time to read the Files. Hmmm. It does have time to post over 6 times a day though so that does not make sense. It may be a newbie. Hmm. Been around for years, claims to be a Cohen fan for years. Ah, that is it. Can't be a Cohen fan. Doesn't recognise song lyrics in the chatroom. Bingo! The Tysh is an imposter. The fact that this is a Cohen board is irrelevent. It is simply a parasite looking for a host, and unfortunately we are it.

Jarkko, don't waste your time running around correcting it's mistakes. Either post a warning on the front of the Forum, or provide the genuine Cohen fan with a Tysh Filter to screen out the dross. It would make a wonderful Xmas gift to everyone.

Seasonal greetings to all from Circle 6.

Moonlight, Up to the nineteeth century fine art was limited to painting and sculpture. since the Dada revolution of the 20th century a new consciousness has emerged exploding the limits of art to allow the human imagination to take many new, different and exciting forms. You call it junk because some artists prefer not to draw or sculpt, others call it creativity. You are a cultural atavism if you believe you must be able to draw or paint to be an artist. In America we have a First Amendment which guarantees freedom of expression to all. No limits.
Coco, I took the line "She beats him hands down" from your post. You thought it and wrote it. It reminded me of a line from Hallelujah "Love is not some victory march." But you seem to enjoy a good fight, I don't, it's a waste of my time, so c'est fini.

Hi Lightning,

Yes, I wrote: "she beats him hands down" My statement was about the artistic qualities of their artwork. I also said that I loved Leonard's "art". (Heretic, I did it again) :P

You, however wrote the addendum: "Maybe that was their problem". Perhaps you would like to explain this remark of yours? Your attempt to weasel out of your spiteful remarks is nothing short of pathetic.

Your attack on Suzanne was all out of proportion to be just about "Art". You have some other bug in your head that is bothering you. Else you would not have brought up Suzanne's role as a mother, producing inferior copies of Leonard
I am not surprised you are running off. Or saying that you don't like a fight. And how it's a waste of your time. That's always what people say when they have been caught with hands in the cookie jar! C'est fini indeed! Humbug!

That's it :? ? If you're looking for work as 'the caustic critic,' be warned.....do not quit your day job. If this atypically-lengthy post of yours was what you considered requisite of a "WARNING," in the sophomoric belief that it "WILL cause great offence," be mindful that critics, by trade, if they hope to be successful, must be: (1) Original (2) Clever (3) Non-Repetitive (4) Non-Redundant. You scored poorly on all counts. If caustic, or anything anywhere near, is what you were going for, you will need to amp it up considerably.

If your plans to become an attorney are still in place, be absolutely certain than none of your closing arguments are of this calibre, lest you find yourself resigned to a career of pro-bono cases.

Hopefully, you'll soon become a genuine Cohen fan yourself, and implement your own Tysh filter.

Hi Hairy Tick!

Leonard would never laugh at us for taking his art "seriously". He takes it seriously. Perhaps though he gets many a laugh from reading your posts! :P :P

I think you do have a heart, but you are uncomfortable showing the vulnerable side of your personaility. You attack because you believe a good offense is the best defense. (This is a American football expression)

George is talented and you KNOW it. And Lizzytysh is the essence and good soul of the board. Where would we be without them?

My mission in life will be to reform you. I will never give up hope for your reform. Everytime you say something bad about someone on the forum I will say something good! :D Think about that the next time you post. I will pour kindness on you in your level of six. And force you to rise to at least level three. Everytime you post you will be thinking in the back of your mind: "what will Coco say about this?"

I am deeply offended by your drivel, Heretic.
For a "man" that changes his faces and identities so much your name should be Lon Chaney.
Even though he did horror stories, he had a heart. Something you left back on the yellow brick road out of Hell.
As a critic, you are entitled to your petty opinions. You try and snipe at every opportunity, be sarcastic, smug and think you are smart.
You would be better examining your soul for any good parts and trying to build on these, you might find a brick or two. The rest is the black of evil, with no substance and directs itself at anyone who will stand up to your bullying.
Go back to your personal Hell on circle six and learn humility.
Have a nice Xmas and i hope it snows on you and your devils(for water is pure and sacred)

What was that Liz? James Willamson aka Partisan aka Starfish aka Heretic
wishes to be an attorney?
He would have to change his mask each time with his wig.
He is better suited to rubber bananas or sheep.
His justice would therefore rebound and not be balanced
And he could keep his venom to himself!!!!!
Liz, please repeat that James Williamson wants to get into Law
I did not think they needed Law in Circle 6
However some people have told me they think Lawyers ARE DEVILS!!!!

When we are speaking about (first) Suzanne and song - does anyone knows where I can get Constant Comment Tea:) from China? I want like Proust take cup of (Leonard's) tea and see what would happen. Whi is manufacturing that sort of tea?

By the way, I recently saw Dominique Isserman's great new work: photosession with Mila Jovovich made for French magazine Elle (Croatian isuue for July, and I saw it was published in all international editions but in different months). I don't like Mila Jovoich specially, or her acting, but pictures were greatly made, Isserman is really talented.

Hi All ~
Just a personal observation, re Suzanne Elrod's artwork. I agree she has considerable talent as a 'copiest' or 'reproductionist'. However, as a contemporary portraitist, her work is flat and lifeless (with the exception of the young child in profile, 'Impressionist'-style).
Those who paint from photographs of people, rarely produce anything with real depth and light. It's known as a lazy artist's way to paint portraits, for obvious reasons. If I were serious about having my portrait painted (and not likely to be), I wouldn't pay that kind of money for a mediocre reproduction of an adequate photograph.

Having some artistic ability myself, I did some painting (oils and watercolour) and sketching when younger. It just does not 'come out right' if not 'copied' from the real thing. A Masterwork is a real thing, that's why she can copy them so well; a photograph of a person is not. Odd as that may sound, that's why the quality is so disparate.

That's my 2 cents' worth. You can chuck the rotten fruit now, if you want.

For Heretic ~
A final word, on poetry. Painting with words has to come from a 'real' place, also. Each artist's expression is unique; if you wouldn't compare a Pollock with a Picasso, why compare one poet's work with others' by some sophistic reference to 'literary rules'! Even Basho, the famous Haiku master, said, "Learn the rules, and then forget them."

Some artists are prolific (like a Picasso), and by the number produced are sure to have a greater range of quality and appeal. Some you'll hate, some you'll love. Good, bad or indifferent - if it comes from the heart, those with heart will recognize it's real value.

I'm sorry to say, Heretic, that as a Devil's Advocate you suck! If I were he, I'd fire (flame?) you, heh heh. :P

OK, I'm done. :D

As a devil's advocate, Heretic produced his own sick poetry on the Poetry section. You can see that it dosn't come from his Heart, as he has none.
He is the Tin Man of this Forum, maybe he is looking for Dorothy??
I would suggest he goes back to Law School and searches for a heart to blind Justice. Being blind, she may give him one!!!!
A Heart that is.............

Makera,

You are so full of it. In addition to your universal knowledge of philosphy, religion, poetry, literature, and music --you now inform us of your artistic abilities. What could possibly be next?

Hi All,

I can't agree with Makera about the portraits. The self-portrait of Suzanne in the blue gown doesn't look flat to me. Also, in the background of this one, there is a portrait on the wall. It looks like it might be Adam and Lorca, maybe. 8) I looked very closely for one of Leonard but I didn't see one. :(

Here we go again. I tried to post from home, but when I clicked on Submit, my computer froze. So, now, I'll do a semblance of a repeat from work.

I don't claim to be an expert, or anything close, on music or art. [Not saying that you are suggesting to be either, on art, Makera.] I only know what I like, and why [usually, anyway, on the why]. I don't find her work flat or lifeless, either one. I like the expression she imbues her paintings with; however, I'd be happy to consider anything that anyone might point out that makes them appear flatness or lifeless, just as if we were standing, side-by-side, at the museum.

The impression I got from her site [as I recall, her comment was that she "usually" paints from photographs] was that she would do a sitting, if someone really wanted it, and were willing to pay accordingly. However, with the distances, the time availability of people these days, and the fact that her site has to do with commissioning portraits over the Internet, it seems unfair to me to presume that she can't paint, and very admirably, a seated portrait. If I were able, I would love to have one done by her [seated or via photograph]; however, I can pretty safely say, it's unlikely I ever will :( .

In communicating, behind the scenes, with someone [related to Suzanne and the discussion here, but in a different context, that of Suzanne's alleged nature as a person] the person quoted one of Leonard's lines, "All I ever learned from love is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you." What suddenly occurred to me when I read that, and how I responded was, "Interesting how I'm reading that line now, with its double entendre ~ 'at someone who outdrew you'." In that Leonard does tend toward dualities of meaning, double entendres, et al, at least considering it in this context has some merit.

Georges....your poetry often does have vision, rarely does it have any control. Any worthwhile endeavor requires hard work. I do not see the hard work and great care in your poetry that I see in say Suzanne Elrod's paintings.
If someone criticizes your poetry it doesn't automatically make him your mortal enemy.
