Since I think it may have been me who told Laura at Krakow, I will explain.

During the recent legal tussle between the incumbent mayor and the challenging mayor (eventually won by the incumbent) the only thing the challenging mayor had time to do while briefly in office was to buy some new double-headed lamp-posts. Rather than throw them away, the incumbent mayor has had them erected all along the front.

The trouble is that (perhaps because the new lamp-posts are double-headed and so use more electricity) the wonderful string of light-bulbs all along the front that would come on promptly at 7pm every evening has gone. I think this is a great loss. But I suppose I am just an old stick-in-the-mud.

Hey there! Who was the cheeky moderator who edited my answer?! I had the guess there... Not some dots. or at least I'm pretty sure I did.

Yes you where right Laura. ;-)

Hydriot, I think they save a lot on the Electricity bill, the string of out of date light-bulbs looked wonderful but was very expensive burning the whole night.

I am confused.

So now they turn on the new lamps or not?

Yes, the new lights are in use, but the lovely string of bulbs has gone.

As I think has been mentioned elsewhere, the knocker is back on the door. All the woodwork has been repainted, so I guess the knocker was removed just while the door was being stripped and re-painted.

There have been various photos and accounts of the ancient door knocker on LC's house on Hydra.

Until now, I was not familiar with the detail of this adornment until I viewed both of Eva Martonyi's (majmunka) and Maarten Massa's outstanding Hydra 2011 albums.

In an earlier post, "Dem" described it as:
...the knocker on the door.
A left female hand and two little Stars of David.

The design of the door knocker intrigued me. So I hunted for more information and found a site dedicated to the Star of David which includes some added description.

An earlier photo of LC's door knocker is included in the Hydra house photo collection recorded by Rauli, Eija and Jarkko Arjatsalo (c2002).

Szilvia Szanto (Gallina) uploaded more photos to her wonderful Hydra album on Facebook. Included was a fantastic shot of the door knocker in motion.
