I pretty much worship everything the man has written. I can even listen to Death of a Ladies Man sometimes and not cringe, though I have to think of it as a (failed) collaborative effort and not a formal LC record; however Memories and the title track are great songs, i think. Having said that I have to go with Jazz Police. I know what it's about and all that and that's fine, but the arrangement is just, well, weird. I'm a big fan of weird, but that's the one song I will maybe put on once a year just to see if it's any different.

I don't care for Dear Heather -- to the point that I skip over that track if I can. Since when was a Vitamin D deficiency worthy of song?

hahah, that song took a little while to grow on me, but I find it wonderfully light and enjoyable.

I loved 'Dear Heather' the moment I heard it. Thought it was hilarious and a perfect showcase of LC's wry sense of humor. Makes me laugh every time I hear it or even just think about it!

For me, Jazz Police does not flow smoothly through my ear and the heavy, fast songs on DOALM. Everything else is absolutely brilliant and different songs change meanings for me at various times in my life. This is a truly magical tower of song.

For the win, Marsha. My original list consisted of the Death Of A Ladies' Man album and the songs The Butcher, Leaving Green Sleeves, The Lost Canadian, The Traitor, Boogie Street and Because of.
A few months later I have come to like all of these, EXCEPT these two you mentioned. Jazz Police is very weird, I like it only when I'm in the right mood for it.

Oh, and when TheSpice-BoxOfEarth mentioned "Always" I found it and listened to it..And I don't like it either..

I agree with you (again), Lisa - that was truly shocking to see those songs in a "not like" list! I think The Traitor and Boogie Street on a "not like" list is also pretty heretical.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, no offense intended here.

The only thing I cannot listen to is the Death of a Ladies' Man album - that horrilbe wall of sound just ruins Leonard's art, in my opinion. It's a shame, because at the core, I think they are really good songs; I have wished that Leonard would re-record them without that putrid noise in the background (don't think he ever will, though; he has said that it was a very dismal time in his life; maybe he wants to let it stand as a representation of that period of time - or just doesn't want to go back there - but who knows?)

For me, everything else The Man has done is totally brilliant, and beyond the great beyond.

Nah, The Traitor is kinda monotonous and the intro of Boogie Street ain't all that good.. You just need time to get used to both..

I haven't come close to listening to ALL of Leonard's songs and of the ones I've heard, there are only a few that I'm not particularly fond of. I guess my list would be:
The Stranger Song
Avalanche
Dress Rehearsal Rag
Jazz Police
Iodine

That's about it. Of course, that list is subject to change. Sometimes a song grows on me and I end up liking it after initially being turned off by it. Such is the case for Boogie Street. I really didn't like it the first dozen or so times I heard it. While it's not one of my favorites, I no longer hate it.
