Rock Rose ~ I'd love for you to go to Amazon and read some of the comments about the movie and soundtrack. The signature photo alone tells you much about the magnificence of the film. What on earth do the "egg gatherers" do with the eggs? Extract the yolk [and baby chick with it?] and paint them or something? Or set them on a shelf, as is? Or brag about its being an endangered-species egg? Unbelievable!

Now, when I see birds fly over, I look and wonder if they live around here, or are they just passing through [as in Leonard's song ], and if so, are they almost home, or how far do they have to go? I was on the computer [after the bulk of this posting was written and posted] and went outside to see what a bird was squawking about. Seeing it was a bluejay made me feel a bit better, since they tend to be squawkers to begin with, and I couldn't see what was upsetting him/her.

I was going to order the soundtrack, but computer world sans a credit card can become quite difficult. I know there's a way to do it all with money order, but the path to that option was not easily discernable . So, it's just going to have to wait until later. I had planned to check out the two Nick Cave albums [cd's?] at the same time, but the project has just been back-burnered for the time being .

Well, add Boogie Street to that crowded burner. Just went and came back from there, looking all the way back to when the site's discussion board started. Thought the thread was obviously titled, but I only found one Boogie Street thread, which didn't have the content in question. Hopefully, I just overlooked it, and another look will be more productive. I did an official search via their search option, but that brought absolutely nothing. Never much [if any] luck with it in the past, either; maybe it's disconnected or out of order . Anyway, my thought was to just bring the entire thread here. We had a lot of fun with it. If Lightning reads this post, maybe she can assist. She may recognize easier the thread's title.

So, add three, delayed projects to the day ~ I'll get to them all later, though .

I checked Amazon out and read the comments about Winged Migration and was very impressed. You are right the signature photo is very beautiful and if that is an indicator of the film footage, it must be truly spectacular to see and I am looking forward to doing so.

Yep, you are absolutely right, that is exactly what the egg collectors do they collect eggs to order for obviously very wealthy clients for their private collections. There are agencies that are trying to clamp down on these activities and when the perpetrators are caught they are heavily fined and can even get their cars confiscated. The courts are beginning to take it more seriously and have started to give custodial sentences and about time too.

A funny thing happened today (maybe this should go in the synchronicity thread!). I had to accompany someone to a hospital appointment this afternoon and as I waited for them I picked up a copy of The Readers Digest (years old as is the way of hospital waiting rooms!) and in it was an article about migrating birds that are shot down over Italy and Sicily. A young Italian girl had felt so strongly about it that she decided to take action to stop it and got park rangers and nature conservancy groups to put their money where there mouths are and to start tackling it, which they did very often endangering their lives in the process. They did get results and succeeded in greatly reducing the activity in Italy but it seemed to be harder to do so in Sicily. However, maybe in the intervening years there has been success there too.
I thought it strange that this was an article about a subject we have been discussing so recently.

Hope you're doing well, too, you seem to be ! Yes, the signature photo of the film is a true indication, yet even so, can't possibly come close! You're right that your Reader's Digest anecdote definitely goes in the synchronicity section, but in that it has to do with birds, rightfully goes here, too! I'll be anxious to get your own feedback on the film, once you do see it.

This morning, I heard a segment on NPR about the "broriole"[?] ~ that's how the pronunciation sounded. It is also a migrating bird, and they were talking about the log cutting in the area where it normally lives, and how with each massive cut of the forested areas, the population not only declines, but avoids that area. They were talking about how birdwatchers can tend to become obsessed with numbers and their lists [of birds seen/unseen] and not even be cognizant or pro-active in regard to the huge loss of habitat, blatantly occurring worldwide. The comment was that they don't appear to realize that with no habitat, there are no birds. The habitat, of course, and as always with any creature, has to be unique to that particular bird's needs and habits.

People with the fortitude of that Italian girl are what it takes! I'm so glad to see that her efforts had an impact in Italy. My brother is apparently preparing for his annual squirrel-hunting trip. He's also [at least in the past been] a duck hunter . It all seems ingrained in him, and I'm not sure why. There's definitely no need for food on his table. I simply will never understand killing innocent creatures for sport. There are soooo many hunters in this country, it would boggle your mind!

The Boogie Street thread [which I've yet to locate] is where we discussed what/where is Boogie Street [from Leonard's song]. There were some great replies.

Ah yes, well once I have functioning speakers [made so by the appropriate cable/wire], my computer life will become a whole lot easier! I'm gonna have to start using the other back burner [thanks a lot ! I'll definitely go to the link you've provided for Nick Cave when I do, and try to decide which of the two cd's you two have suggested to try first.

The egg thiefs [they certainly dignifiy their covert activities with the term "gatherers," don't they?] are dreadful. Here's to all legal ramifications possible! Their karma's already being dealt with elsewhere, but sadly, only when they suffer the time and monetary inconveniences and/or burdens here, are they inclined to alter their behaviour. People without their consciences to moderate their activities just go their merry way, robbing the world of innocent hatchlings.

I came across the flyer listing the films showing at the Hippodrome [the theatre where I saw "Winged Migration"], so am bringing the blurb to you here. It helps you to imagine the serene peacefulness and beauty of the more spiritual aspects of the film, and its magnificence, overall:

"WINGED MIGRATION ~ Awards: Best Editing (2002 Cesar Awards - "French Oscars") "...arguably, it's the most beautiful nature documentary ever made." - Film Journal International. Five teams of people (more than 450 people, including 17 pilots and 14 cinematographers) were necessary to follow a variety of bird migrations through forty countries and each of the seven continents. The film covers landscapes that range from the Eiffel Tower and Monument Valley to the remote reaches of the Arctic and the Amazon. Watching it wide-screen is a most phenomenal experience. Our own, resident bird, Witty Owl, would be enthralled. In fact, the timely appearance of each of his bird haikus merits mentioning on the synchronicity thread. He's depicted birds, in the ways that only a true observer of them can do.

I soooo hope that this film comes "to a theatre near you" and, if not, to your local video store.

I love birds, they are very special beings.

I too abhor hunting for the hell of it. It's different if someone is hunting for food to survive where the animal has a fighting chance and is respected and appreciated for giving it's life - I can just cope with that.

I've just been on to the Nick Cave site and have found to my dismay that the link to the videos seems to have gone Another screen would come up referring to his appearance on The South Bank Show and that is how you accessed them but it doesn't now and even clicking on that link doesn't seem to do anything. Please don't think that I'm giving you false info I'm going to miss it

As there seems to be so many problems surrounding you trying to hear Nick I'm going to jot down some of his lyrics to be going on with instead.
I hope other browsers will see them and appreciate how good a writer/poet he is too

Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness in bringing the lyrics to me! As many have said before, as they've referred to Leonard, what have I been missing? These soft and gentle, rounding lyrics of love are not at all what I had associated with "Nick Cave" ~ I remember someone playing something for me once, years back, but I have no recollection of any of the specifics, other than its being rather unlistenable for my taste. It must have been from his earlier, "punk" era. These are insightful lyrics of maturity. I am now even more anxious to hear his singing them. I could actually go out and buy the cd based on these alone. Is this not also the cd that TC recommended, or was it the other one that TC suggested?
