Hi Socializard
This is what distinguishes an artist from one who would like to be an artist - the need/commitment to doing whatever the chosen form is, whether one is 'in the mood' or not. Discipline is the by-word.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.

I concur.

my husband was an instructor of visual arts before he retired. now and then he would come upon a student who was staring at a blank sheet. Invariably, he would ask, "What are you doing?"
nearly invariably, the student would respond, "I'm thinking."
upon this response, he would say something along the lines of, "Stop thinking with your head, and start thinking with your pencil."

doodling is better than "thinking."

when stumped...definitely. i like this. manna's husband sounds like my old writing professor. it was for a fiction workshop course. she said she'd make herself write every morning regardless of whether she thought it was "good writing" or not. it was just to always be in the habit of writing. i'm glad you guys could understand what i wrote before.
