Mathijs van Nieuwkerk a Leonard Cohen Fan!!!??? :D :D :D

Yesterday my favorite awardwining Dutch TV presentor Mathijs van Nieuwkerk, presentor of, o.a., a dayly news type program called "De Wereld Draait Door" (The world keeps on turning) was being interviewed because of the 85th aniversary of the broadcasting company the VARA. During the interview he showed his dressing, his wardrobe, his couch where he rests and then he turned on the music that he listens to while relaxing before the show ...... and ... wait for it .... it was Leonard Cohen with Chelsea Hotel. I'm sure it was the Live in London concert version. This could mean that he has been at one of the concerts.
This really made my day. :D I like Mathijs even more now.

Oh Hydriot, you are so lucky to be able to spend so much time on Hydra. I am so envious.

Yes, of course I am :D ... but I don't want forum members to imagine I am just lazing around on the beaches here or boozing at the Roloi. I am working.

Since I am paying municipal taxes in Greece and UK wherever my carcass happens to be, and since I have organised my life so that I can run most things via the internet (the classic 'virtual office'), it's not a hard decision to be here where the temperature at this time of year is usually not less than 20C. (I am wearing a short-sleeved shirt right now)

BUT ... two weeks ago we also had daily thunderstorms, and on Tuesday and Wednesday the island was completely cut off, because the puny Flying Dolphins can't get out of Piraeus if the wind is about Force 5 or 6 and from the south. So life on Hydra outside the tourist season does have its challenges too.

I had time to adore a lot of Leonard today. I was visiting someone in hospital and got stuck in traffic that crawled and crawled. My blood pressure was rising, but Leonard came to my rescue. His calming voice as I listened made wasted time in traffic, not wasted at all. In fact I was sorry I reached my destination.

I really wanted to hear The Partisan as done by Leonard Cohen so I dialed up some of his songs today. After a few songs Hallelujah came on, during the song I heard the sound of gunshots, so I walked out of my house and listened to Taps, my house is near a cemetery and there was a US military funeral taking place, the gunshots were from a 21 gun salute. I came back in and listened to the rest of Hallelujah after that.
Right now I'm listening to A Thousand Kisses Deep, love it.

In my day job as an editor, a lot of corrected book page proofs pass across my desk. There are two main ways of marking a capital letter be made into a lower case letter - one is drawing three lines with a slash through them, the other is ... writing 'l.c.' in a circle  I seem to be dealing with a proofreader who favours the latter right now, and each time I see it I am transported back to Las Vegas and that amazing last concert :D :D (and yes I am counting down the hours till I have finished work for Christmas :( )

The other day I caught one of my work colleagues who professes to not like Leonard at all copying my CD of Songs Of The Road on to his computer. It was priceless to see and hear his reaction at being caught in action.

I love that B4real. Busted :D :D

I am loving listening to an old concert from Hamburg, Germany. 4.14.1988. The warm ups on this show are great. I think Leonard is at is best on these little bits that are not part of the general concert. They are at the end of the show. (which is unusual) I finally found this after days of trying... makes it so sweet. :D

Well a few days ago I was at a Honda dealership and sitting in the lobby I first heard part of Bob Dylan's Christmas album and then Leonard Cohen's Silent Night on the internal music system. Wonder where they got hold of the latter. In any case, I remember thinking they must have already reached their sales quota for year.

After years of channel chasing on the car radio to try to hear an LC song (like I don't have his recorded music  ) it finally happened today! Bird on the Wire, with Leonard Cohen's name on that little screen on XM's The Village - heavenly!!!
