Yesterday, I was talking with my sister on the telephone, & she was updating me about a certain problem she has been dealing with, & when she was finished, she said, "so that's my story"; I immediately heard, in my mind's ear (& almost said aloud!), ". . . I admit/ it's broken & it's bleak. . ."

I love it when Leonard's lyrics appear in life! I also usually resist the temptation to finish the line out loud, but every now and then, it is just too overwhelming not to blurt out!

During the EU law lecture today the lecturer mentioned one particular judge of the European Court of Justice. An extremely accomplished man who after a week on the bench, on a Friday evening still teaches at a university as well. His name: Koen Lenaerts

Made me smile for a bit!

Argh! I am at the Roloi, and they just played an appalling version of Dance Me to the End of Love. It was Latinised with a sort of cha-cha-cha beat, the sort of music you would expect to hear on Strictly Come Dancing.
How could they? And at the Roloi!
Definitely a random LC moment I am not adoring today.

A few days ago, two birds sat on the electricity wire that runs across the front of my house here on Hydra, one then sidling up to the other in an obvious courtship ritual. The second then moved further up the wire, playing hard-to-get! Both then flew off together, very soon to mate I reckon.
I was reminded of Leonard as I watched those love-birds, and thought that if he were composing that day, instead of forty years ago, we might now have a song called Two Birds on the Wire!

Going to work early this morning on a busy tram filled with strangers with a grey sky covering a busy city I had my ipod in my ear with give or take 3thousand songs on it. It was on 'shuffle'. One song had passed and then this clear, sonorous voice that I love so much, sang into my ear:
"I love you in the Morning..." It filled me with longing.
And then immediately the next track: a speech from the Leonard Cohen Frankfurt concert 1972, he was speaking to an audience about his reason for singing in that place. Here is an exerpt from what Leonard said:
"Make love man!!! I .....sing with the idea that I want to bring people into that.....
We live in cities, we pass thousands of strangers everyday.....
The only way the cities will ever be redeemed is that if people can approach each other on the street for the soul and singular purpose of making love ....(it goes on)...."
I had to grin, the city seemed so much brighter place and I looked at the people round me.

On the front at Hydra I saw a man I did not know carrying a huge sheaf of papers pressed close to his chest, presumably documents to show the Port Police. As I passed he called to a friend at a table:
"Bureaucracy is coming, not democracy!"

I always think of Leonard when I hear McGill University, and tonight it was mentioned on The Simpsons. It had me laughing- mainly because I think Leonard would have laughed. Marge reassures Lisa that if she doesn't get into an Ivy League school, she "can always go to McGill- the Harvard of Canada."

I seem to be dominating this thread -- sorry. It is just these things keep happening.
I was listening to a Greek radio station, the signal was drifting, so I tried re-tuning it with just a touch on the knob. I got another station instead -- and it was Sharon singing Boogie Street with Leonard joining in!
I was so surprised I checked the CD drive to make sure I hadn't started a CD running by mistake.

Hey,
rpan. Great catch.
Near Toronto, we had a similar type of summer camp like the one near Montreal described in the youtube video.
I was all smiles listening to that comedian telling the Leonard Cohen stories.
Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed it.
