Hi B4real,

A questioning song, one where a song character asks questions from the somewhat emotional equivalent
of a boxer who has just awakened from a knockout punch, is "Did I Ever Love You." There's an absence of
question marks in the song title and lyrics as they appear at http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/. I take
it that this is as L.C. intended the title and the song to read. If this is what he intended, the absence of
question marks could indicate that the questions asked by the song character are declarations of condition
as much as they are questions.

Hi Steven,
Yes, Did I Ever Love You is a song of mainly implied (or rhetorical) questions for sure or it could be conditional as well like you say.
But with the song I have in mind there are a lot of visible questions grammatically punctuated as such with corresponding answers to them.
It would probably have been clearer if I had said to name a question and answer song :)

Hi Bev,
To start with a question, could it be "Memories" ?
I said " won't you let me see
Your naked body?
She said "no you cannot see
My naked body.

Good to hear from you Ruth, but the song I’m wanting is comprised wholly of grammatically visual questions and their answers. Some of those questions and answers are repeated. In my first post there is a word I have used that also applies to this song. If I posted a picture you would guess it immediately :)

So sorry Rachel, I didn’t have Teachers in mind and it does have some questions and answers but with the title I want pretty much all of the verse is Q&A.
The clue word I said at the start is “short”.
This photo (no words this time) is labelled for non-commercial reuse. I hope you all know your flowers

Thanks Bev. I am looking for the song where someone puts on a poker face.

Hi uncleerwinone,

Is it "There For You"? The particular lyric line is:
O mask of iron

Thanks Steven for giving it a shot,
the person in the song suffered a big loss and is still hurting. To deal with the grief/emotions he/she
likes to come across strong as if it is a smiling matter.

Thanks, Ruth.

Please name 2 songs with lyrics which employ metaphors of card games in the context of a love relationship.

(Always thought of "poker face" as an impassive expression that doesn't convey anything to other players, hence
the response with the song containing "O mask of iron." -- Such a mask might be non-articulated and impassive.
Smiling when angry... well, that could be called a "bluff.")

Hi,

One song that uses a card game metaphor in that context is "The Stranger Song." It does so, quite excellently
and extensively, via describing the actions of the "dealer." Can't identify the other song at this moment. Will
have to "fold." :)
