Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Diane/Steven, wow, it is ages since I thought about Richie Havens, I had forgotten how great he was. Brilliant Beatles covers.
thanks

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Hi Margaret - no, damn, missed that but I'm rarely up at 2am. I'm always ambivalent about seeing the video of a tour I've seen live tho'. Thanks anyway. Yeah, I know all about the chocolate necessity thing. I'm glad you enjoyed LC in Liverpool. No LC for me this year but I do have incredible memories from last summer.
Hi Evie B - thanks for calling by:-)

Hi Diane,
The concert was excellent. Hope you get to hear more than "Here Comes The Sun,"
"High Flyin' Bird" and "Lady Madonna." Here Comes The Sun" was peformed so
beautifully in the concert that it brought tears to people in the audience. Richie is a
self-taught guitar player, b.t.w. The quality of his heart, voice, guitar playing and
spirit have made for some very special recordings.
P.S. Editing was to correct spelling, usage, grammar due to morning coffee not yet
having kicked-in.

Hi Evie B,
Yes, he was brilliant. Also, he still is. He is even better now than he was, i.m.o.

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Glad you enjoyed the concert Diane. I have seen Springsteen only twice (which is two more times than I have seen LC!) and the last was in 2001 I believe. Maybe I should see him again if I can get motivated enough to do the preliminaries necessary for that to happen. In the past couple of years I have missed concerts by Bob Dylan, John Hiatt, Cohen, Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Kiri Te Kanawa among others that I intended to see. The last two were actually playing ten minutes from my place. hey but I did manage to see Two Rivers Ensemble.
Glad Max made it in one piece ...I was wondering how he would manage get across in that drum car.
Steven ,

Kush,
Make mine eggs over medium and whole wheat toast, and some home fries or hash browns, ketchup and tabasco,
and black pepper. And, yes, a cup of coffee would be great. This works equally well, late night on the road,
at those truck stops that serve "breakfast" all the time.

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
My favourite track from the last 10 years is 'The Fuse' anyone else like that one? He is brilliant live, such raw energy that man has.
I took some pics at Hard Rock Calling for my photo agency - no photo pit access as he runs around so we had to go in crowd. Here are the best 3 I got for anyone who likes to look at Bruce

Aymi! I am floored. That's brilliant - that you took Bruce's pics. But I was there at Hyde park. Didn't I promise to be your assistant if you ever shot the boss??? Did you meet him? God I'll kill you if you met him. Love the first pic, the one of him playing harmonica. Thanks, you got me grinning here. x. Yes, The Fuse - smokin' lyrics, I like that entire album more and more these days.
Kush and Steven, could we have kippers for breakfast? That tune is stuck in my head since the breakfast talk.
This weekend I am off to my first womad festival. It's raining buckets here and it will just be me and my tent, waist deep in the big muddy field, so although I'm really looking forward to it I think I'll have to prove it all night.

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Hi,
I'm on time delay for seeing those pictures, but look forward doing so.
Diane, kippers (smoked fish here, sardines or herring, I think) for breakfast...
Cold
pizza or salad maybe, but kippers, no. Did have a late night snack of smoked oysters last
night with some good hot sauce.
For weather that can include rain: check tent seams. There are seam sealers (usually spray on)
that can help keep water from coming in from the seams for some tent materials. I'd opt for the
non-spray-on kind to avoid breathing the stuff. Also, a ground cloth can help if placed under
the tent. A cot within a tent can also be a good thing. A couple of quick thoughts, not that you
asked or didn't otherwise know. Misery is lying in a tent on top of a puddle. Had that experience
once. Enjoy the festival.

Thanks Diane - the harmonica pic is my favourite but others seem to prefer the other one of him in the crowdDiane wrote:Aymi! I am floored. That's brilliant - that you took Bruce's pics. I didn't meet him, he walked past a few times when we were being escorted in and out of the press area but that was enough - very nice up close! I didn't dare lift up my camera as someone else did and was told straight away to delete the photos in front of the PR staff or be booted out lol. It was a great concert wasn't it, were you there back in 2002 at Crystal Palace?
Enjoy WOMAD, let me know what it is like - I've always heard good reports from others who have been.

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Enjoy WOMAD Diane. Just checked out the website I recognize Rokia Traore (posted some of her lyrics here sometime back) and Youssou N Dour. Not familiar with others in the lineup. Rokia Traore is supposed to be an electric live performer...lots of dancing.
Steven,
Steven,
yes hash browns with tabasco is awesome ....in fact I dont eat anything at all without a very liberal dose of tabasco. The Spices of the Gods!!and some home fries or hash browns, ketchup and tabasco,
and black pepper

I only need to kill you slightly, thenhowthelightgetsin wrote: very nice up close!

Margaret I will hold you to that weather forecast. Will enjoy doing those Bruce tapes for you next week.
Steven, look up Breakfast in America, Supertramp. I am not sure about kippers for breakfast myself but an excellent fishy breakfast is plaice, gently cooked nice n melt in the mouth, with lots of mushrooms fried in butter, tomatoes and suateed potatoes. Followed by fresh friut salad. mmmm. I usually have porridge tho':-)
Kush I'll keep my eye out for Rokia Traore. I don't know anyone in the lineup except Peter Gabriel and Youssou N'Dour, but it all looks very enticing. Wish you were gonna be there.
Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Hi Diane,
Will look up Breakfast in America, Supertramp.
Let me know what you think of Solomon Burke (on the festival lineup). He's highly regarded here in the
U.S. among those who know "soul music."
I've got to also look up "plaice." Fresh caught trout or bass is nice for breakfast with some fried potatoes,
though that might be more of a fisherman's kind of preference. Multi-grain hot cereal is a nice treat around here.
Don't know how that differs from porridge.
Again, enjoy the festival.
P.S. Did a Wiki search. American plaice according to an article there = sole. Caught those and like 'em.
Don't know about the other kinds of plaice.

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Steven I forgot plaice is more of a British/ European fish. Good of you to go to the trouble of looking it up. I have a long fish post in my head but maybe I should write it some other time. Porridge here is made only of oats. It's a bit like wall-paper paste in consistency, but very nice with a dollop of jam.
WOMAD was quite something. A highly enriching weekend. I wish I'd taken Friday and Monday off, because I missed most of the first day and the last band on Sunday and including both the acts you and K mentioned. But even when I was there I missed as much good stuff as I saw cos there is so much going on all the time. One unexpected pleasure was the (free) hour long lessons I had in djembe, dhol drum, and Egyptian belly dancing
. They were but three of the many workshops on offer. Rob is a veteran of the festival and tells me it is always around about the last weekend in July. I will def. be going next year and making sure to be there for the full three days.
Some of my fave acts of what I saw:
Etran Finatawa, a band made up of two nomadic tribes; the Tuareg and the Wodaabe. Been listening to them ever since I saw them. They are like Tinariwen but with less electric guitar and more of an acoustic sound:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWKQcGneVNU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2iBRN6YdLw
Ba Cissoko, a kora griot from Guinea. I saw a very interesting question/answer session he did about the kora (African harp). (His band were amazing, more musicians than in this clip and there was quite a reggae sound in what they did on the weekend):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eI8h4elOQU
Kamel El Harrachi from Algeria. He had a captivating voice and an interesting traditional (Chaabi) band. He's the son of a former master, Dahmane El Harrachi. Hmmmm on youtube the band sound is more ear-bashing than it was live but try this quieter one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuDNtsfRtmc&NR=1

Aymi, if you are still here: I was wondering whether you remember Bruce in Hyde Park when he stood still and held his guitar up by the neck at arm's length for some time after the vocal part of Racin in the Street (as a tribute to Danny I think). At the time it felt quite powerful and symbolic. Don't suppose you got a pic of that did you?
