the basic rule is 3 lines 5/7/5 syllables

Not at all, I'm very glad to be rid of the last line, it didn't fit for me. I like the word gasping, " gasping lungs" that feels right. Thank you :D I'm going to use the word my instead of our though as this was a solitary moment for myself and lady winter.

I'm not sure about the comma I added, "trudge through" was actually my self commentary as I moved through the snow - but a reader wouldn't know that so maybe it shouldn't be there.
