Awesome. The onstage chemistry between Bruce and the big man is really unique. Here he goes into his long-winded overblown intro and ends up nominating Clarence to the White House:

and Backstreets from about the time that I first started hearing his music:

One soft infested summer
me and Terry became friends
Trying in vain to breathe the fire
we was born in
Catching rides to the outskirts
tying faith between our teeth
Sleeping in that old abandoned beach house
getting wasted in the heat
And hiding on the backstreets,
hiding on the backstreets
With a love so hard
and filled with defeat
Running for our lives at night
on them backstreets

Slow dancing in the dark
on the beach at Stockton's Wing
Where desperate lovers park
we sat with the last of the Duke Street Kings
Huddled in our cars
waiting for the bells that ring
In the deep heart of the night
to set us loose from everything
to go running on the backstreets,
running on the backstreets
We swore we'd live forever
on the backstreets we take it together

Endless juke joints and Valentino drag
where dancers scraped the tears
Up off the street dressed down in rags
running into the darkness
Some hurt bad some really dying at night
sometimes it seemed
You could hear the whole damn city crying
blame it on the lies that killed us
Blame it on the truth that ran us down
you can blame it all on me Terry
It don't matter to me now
when the breakdown hit at midnight
There was nothing left to say
but I hated him
and I hated you when you went away

Laying here in the dark
you're like an angel on my chest
Just another tramp of hearts
crying tears of faithlessness
Remember all the movies, Terry,
we'd go see
Trying to learn how to walk like the heroes
we thought we had to be
And after all this time to find
we're just like all the rest
Stranded in the park and forced to confess
To hiding on the backstreets,
hiding on the backstreets
We swore forever friends
on the backstreets until the end
Hiding on the backstreets,
hiding on the backstreets

I'm happy that you like that song, Sherry! Darling.

Backstreets: Wow, Kush. If I get Tchoc to fix me up with some decent speakers on my computer, and maybe get hold of a more comfy chair, I could just watch youtube all through the night.

Cool as hell that video of Bruce praising the band, and telling the audience the story of the gypsy-woman in the dark woods on the way to the river of life: "You can't get there because you're trying to get there alone, mr independent. You need help. You need a band."

Need a band. Yes, don't we all. And his band is ace. Even Patti. I forgive her.

Speaking of rivers, My own first exposure to The Boss was via The River album aged 18. That was the one that got me hooked.
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse
that sends me down to the river
though I know the river is dry

And here's Brilliant Disguise from the Tunnel of Love album. It always sounded just a tad too "poppy" and smooth that song; I'd like to hear him sing it just with his guitar, a la Devils and Dust. For a moment when I clicked on this video that's what I thought I was about to hear but it wasn't to be. Worth watching anyway though:

Diane did you see this....Springsteen plays The River on a street in Copenhagen. He does this occasaionally - couple of years ago he played for the airport staff in Reykjavik, Iceland on a stopover.

very easy to relate to - somethings are so important at certain times and at other times they dont matter at all...

I got a job working construction for the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember
Mary acts like she don't care

But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir

Hi again Kush. Are you psychic? I have been expressing that very sentiment to others today!

It is not surprising he plays on the street as happily as in front of tens of thousands is it.

I won't have a chance to youtube this week, but here's one I've saved cos I knew we'd have to play it some time:

Cheers!
