Barcelona Celebration 20 and 21-09-2009
Re: Barcelona Celebration 20 and 21-09-2009
I haven't been to Barcelona before but know there is a regular bus service from the airport terminals into the city centre.
The link below is taken from the hotel website where I am staying. I am not sure where the concert venue is situated in relation to the centre. I'll be using the airport bus myself, travelling out from Liverpool on Saturday and back on Tuesday night (Easyjet)
http://www.hoteltoledano.com/airportbarcelona.htm
It is best to contact the venue directly if you need to be in a disabled seating area. They usually have special facilities and lifts. Try to email them if possible about a ticket.
I hope this helps.

All the airport buses use Placa de Catalunya as their terminus which is on the El Corte Inglés department store side of the square in fact they all end and begin all their journeys right outside the store.
So beware if you looking at hotels near the venue (which I presume you mean at the waterfront end of La Ramblas) then you will have to negotiate the whole length of the very busy and crowded La Ramblas.
Battling your way with luggage through throngs of tourists and sightseers down La Ramblas is no joke believe me.
If you can get hold of a metro map you will see that maybe your best bet would to to get off the airport bus and jump the L3 (green line) metro at Catalunya down to either the Liceu stop (about half down La Ramblas) or the Drassanes stop which is right at the bottom of La Ramblas. (see map) Better still it may be a good idea just to jump a taxi once you get off the airport bus at Placa de Catalunya
Good Luck.....Ta Ken

Hi all,
I'm joining everyone in Barcelona as well! Will be staying in the Sants area where the venue and the party is. Both the train from Barcelona airport (cheaper than airport bus, Aerlingus) and the bus from Reus airport (Ryanair) get into Sants station so it's very handy for me as I'm flying in on one (Sat night) and out (Tue afternoon) on the other (to be able to sleep a little longer on Tuesday, hehe, and carry more hand luggage on the way back to Dublin). The metro system in Barcelona is excellent, quite safe, runs til late at night and from Sants it's only a couple of stops into town.
I used to live in Barcelona, if anybody needs any tips on culture and cafes just send me an email. Definitely stop by in the Gracia area (north of city centre), it has beautiful squares, my favourite tapas bar in all of Barcelona, cute boutiques (Calle Verdi etc.) and a bit further up is Gaudi's amazing Parc Güell. This http://www.mirablaubcn.com is a cool bar with terrace and a stunning view of the whole city from the hill of Tibidabo (if any of you is thinking of proposing to someone, this is where you should do it!!).
Anyway, cannot wait for September and looking forward to meeting everyone then (anyone from the Lucca meetup 2008 attending?)!

Thanks so much for the info. I have now booked 2 tickets for the concert in the hope that my sister might meet me there (she lives in France). I think I will opt for the easy way out and get a taxi.
I will also be joining the celebration and if my sister comes she will need to be added to the list.
I can't wait for this to happen. Strange how things are been a fan for more years than I care to say and my first concert was last year in London in July followed by the one in October and then the Weybridge one. Wish I could go to more of them

Margaret, thanks I rang Ticketmasters and they are allocating me disabled seats which is great, the 'only' problem I have is walking with crutches and find stairs a bit difficult but I am sure it will be ok. Busy looking at various web sites which is great.

Hi Maarten,
I am your number 58 guest for lunch at Barca. I am listed as mamcglynn09. Can you change my badge to Marianne09 which is my forum name. i gave you my log in name by mistake. Hope it's not too much trouble for you. By the way I notice my 'small town' of drogheda just north of Dublin has a score of 3 confirmed so far with another 2 planning to travel.

Hi Mary-Ann,
I wrote you about this: I'm using the forum log-ins for the name tags, so "mamcglynn09" is correct! But if you want I can change it, although I'd prefer it to stay like the way it is now...

Re: Barcelona Celebration 20 and 21-09-2009
IMPORTANT NOTE #1 (the good): Dear Cohenites, just announce that we are very very close to announce the final restaurant we have chosen to hold the lunch on Monday. It is a very suitable place and the best thing is that it is within walking distance to the concert. The lunch is scheduled on Monday at 13.30PM and the price will be around 25 euros.
IMPORTANT NOTE #2 (the bad): Dear friends, we are really happy and overwhelmed to see this list growing up and up but as Organizers we are forced to limit the number of people to attend the lunch on Monday (13.30-16.30PM) because it is very difficult to find an appropiate place for so many. It is not a problem of space, but a problem of kitchen-capacity and table-service for the meal. However, there is no problem if more people want to join us AFTER LUNCH (from 16.30PM on) as there will be a bar-service and more activities (apart from drinking and hugging, poetry reading, possibly DVD screening...) until we go together to the Leonard Cohen concert. So, the situation right now is:
NO-LIMIT FOR THE TRIBUTE-CONCERT ON SUNDAY EVENING
NO-LIMIT FOR THE MEET-UP ON MONDAY AFTERNOON
NO-LIMIT FOR THE NAME-TAGS LIST
LIMITED NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS FOR LUNCH ON MONDAY (120 people)
Given this limit-number for lunch, we kindly ask everyone on the list to check with their own schedule and fellow-Cohenites in order to re-confirm if possible or inform of any known person who would miss the lunch. This way we can extend the list for the lunch. Please, take into account that we have avoided any advance-payment or reservation fee but we have compromised with the restaurant to give an accurate approximation of the number of people (120). Understandably, there may be some last-minute absences but we should prevent from reserving lunch for 150 people and in the end showing up 'only' 80, which would be problematic... Look, we are not willing to leave anybody out but we believe that at this point it is necessary to proceed with this re-confirmation step and stablish a "WAITING LIST" for the lunch, so eventually if the final list is for instance of 132, we may find a way to fit those 12 people in, but if it goes to, say, 157 it will certainly be impracticable and not recommendable. Thanks for your encouragement and comprehension!!
