...i too would like to extend my thanks to henning, elke, kerstin, christoph and the rest of the magnificent franz family for all the hard work they went to on our behalf to make our stay in germany the undoubted success it was......

.....withdrawal symptoms from all these meet ups seem to get more intense as the years roll by.......

....and of a big thank you to everybody else for bringing so much fun and laughter with you to the weekend....

....but no thanks to deutsche bahn until they make the signs on haiger railway station much larger

As well as an official walking program every two years there is no reason why any Cohenite cannot suggest a get together of like minded souls whenever.

If for example Leonard does play Montreaux next nearby July I would be happy to arrange a couple of days challenging day hikes around the nearby mountain resort of Leysin ( a much cheaper base than Montreaux) or indeed near my home in the Bernese Oberland in the car free village of Murren 5000ft/1650m

Trouble is Switzerland is expensive but not significantly more than Euroland and there are always cheaper options if one digs deep enough

....posting my thanks to henning and his family got me to a-thinkin' again of our eventful journey from frankfurt to haiger
and my struggle during that journey in trying to convince our resident yorkshireman of the existence of the yorkshire rhubarb triangle......so just for you phil here is the proof of that wonderful area of yorkshire........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhubarb_Triangle

..maybe the yorkshire rhubarb triangle has never had the same impact on the social and gastronomical history of england as say ken dodd's famous liverpool knotty ash jam butty mines or liverpool's now closed broken biscuit repair works but nevertheless rhubarb has still been an integral part in all our lives...rhubarb..rhubarb..rhubarb...rhubarb....rhubarb...rhubarb

can't be repeated enough! And I definitely vote for Elke's sandwiches.

Of course:-) Everyone will soon be nice and fit on this forum, it seems ... (Say if you also want to put your idea forward as a possibility for the "official" 2013 weekend.)

Hi Andrea. As there are so many now interested in these weekends, is it fair that any forum member who has a proposal gets the chance to put it forward? And then, if there are two or more contenders remaining on, say, Mon 3rd October, put it to the vote?
Diane
I like the idea of voting on the possible contenders for the next walking weekend but why 3rd october . Don't you think it is too soon unless you mean oct 3rd 2012 .
The one that gets my vote will have to convince me there will be no eggs for breakfast ' no crab for evening meal no dodgy taxi drivers and lots of those beef spread sandwiches that Elka gave us on the walks . Magnifique they were !!
Phil, thank heavens you haven't mentioned the dodgy pedometers:-(

It might be too soon I suppose. I suggested that date because the 2013 proposals seem to have come from the excitement of last weekend, and I'd thought the potential organisers would want clarity sooner rather than later. But I don't want to make this complicated - shall we see if there are any more bids by 3rd Oct, and then let those who would be doing all the work - Eva, Beatriz and whoever else - either decide between themselves, or agree to a vote and when.

Dear walkers, dear Diane,

of course a vote would be fair , if there are different organizers on the list.
I only did write my opinion and comment to the Spain proposal, which does not mean that I decided it has to be in Spain, sorry.
Spain, Hungary, Holland or whereever .....I know there a great and lovely organizers around the world ;-)

First of all thanks for all the thanks and don't forget it was our total pleasure to organize this and we had great fun and "withdrawal symptoms" were already mentioned by Ken.

I am glad to read of the willingness to host this in different places but I think this is due to the fresh experience of last weekend.

Let a little air in and then everybody gets a chance to think about it again and make a serious offer with a rough plan.

We have heard about Spain, Hungary, Switzerland on this forum. During our weekend Ireland, Finland and Holland were mentioned too.

Important for me is that behind any offer there should be one concrete name of a person who is willing to organize it. Not 2 or 3 as a group, no, one certain person should be in charge.

Those offers who will still survive til December when everything around you looks dark and gloomy should be the treated as serious offers and be the base for a vote if there is more than one.

Personally I would slightly prefer an offer where the person behind it has already been to one of the first two walking weekends, because they have an idea which part could be repeated and

which part should be improved or be organized in a different way. But of course any engagement and suggestion is most welcome.

That's one German comment so far - Walkeluja folks.

Dear Ken
It is strange how the human brain works . My allotment is quite close to a railway line and every time a train goes past for some reason I look over at the rhubarb in the corner and wonderful memories of Haiger come flooding back .

Diane, Thanks so much for posting your pictures-we really enjoyed looking at them. While Anne & I can't commit yet, we are certainly intending to make the 2013 walking weekend. Either Spain or Holland would be great!

Cadaques is a magical place... I am sure that Beatriz and Meritxell will organize the next walking weekend perfectly and they will share it with all of us, as they allways do :D :D :D

I was in favour of an Irish walk, but their idea consisted of walking from one pub to the next. And carrying each other to the third.

Mind you, that sounds like a rather nice idea just now:-)

Mmm rhubarb crumble and custard. I'll bet you've missed train stops for lesser things.
