henning...it the past when i have been visiting you have always met me at wetzlar but i've noticed looking at the railway timetable that while there are 4 or 5 trains per hour to wetzlar from frankfurt there seems to be only an hourly service to haiger despite it being just a few stops further on up the same line as wetzlar.... philip, jean, margaret and myself (and perhaps dave) are landing in frankfurt on thursday 15th. at 15:50....as far as i can see the hourly service to haiger is 2 minutes past each hour so if that's correct then it looks like we will be boarding the 17:02 arriving in haiger at 18:45....can you check to see if i've got it correct.....ta ken

Ken - you are perfectly right. The trains from Flughafen (airport - Regionalbahnhof) to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof go every 10 minutes (S8 on platform 1)
which means that if you are good in time, you can take a train prior to 5.02 and then you have more time at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.

The trains from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main station) to Haiger go once an hour (Platform 15):

Departure 5.30 - Arrival 6.45
Departure 6.22 - Arrival 7.45

You will buy the tickets at the airport ticket machine. A single ticket is 13,50 € - a group ticket for 5 persons is 40 €.

Sorry Ken - there is no group discount on the beer in the hotel. But they offer a 10 per cent disount to those who drink their beer out of a mug. It's ridiculous I know but in some rare cases there are some species who are happy about any discount they can get.

henning...i don't think i'm just talking for myself when i say if it's cheaper to drink out of an old walking boot then that will do me thank you very much .....however for the time being the 10% discount for drinking out of a mug will do very nicely......

.....we are doubly blessed in our leaders...despite the terrible summer of 2009 diane managed to work a miracle in organising perfect weather for our welsh walks/climbs and now this 10% discount on the beer is nothing short of yet another miracle........blessed be you both......

....btw do we need to bring our own mugs?.....if so which one would you suggest i bring.to haiger?.......ta ken

mary.....nice idea but believe me when i say that if i turned up brandishing a dylan mug to an event organised by henning i wouldn't even get through the door......

....so plan B is to use one the hundreds of unsold mugs i made for henning's 2004 berlin event...as you can see from the boxes stored in my spare bedroom i didn't sell many in berlin in fact i only sold one and that was to henning.....so hopefully if i use one of these mugs in the hotel bar i'm expecting to get a least a 33% discount...wish me luck....

some good news just in....
Diane will be joining us after all.

Less than 2 weeks to go now :D

Those 13 - 15 km walks are rather daunting though. I expect to turn back part way and retreat to the hotel pool, sauna or even the bar!

....that's wonderful news....it's just a shame that a few other members of our original welsh weekend are not able to join us this time ...no doubt we shall be raising our glasses or mugs to absent friends over the weekend......

......i've been having problems with my knee over the last few weeks...as a bit of a warm up for haiger i threw all caution to the wind and did a couple of hours along the wirral coastal country park a few days ago...it was the first walk of any length i've managed for quite a while and although it has left me a little stiff in the legs but no problems with the knee so far......i intend to start a regime of a daily 2 hour walk starting after this weekend.....so fingers crossed the knee holds up...ta ken

Dear Ken & all,
Anne & I will be living vicariously through you on the walk. We certainly wish that we would be joining you. We will be raising a glass to you all several times during the trip and I may walk up Bascom Hill an extra time or two just to keep in the spirit. Have a wonderful time!

We will miss you greatly, Joe and Anne! And oh, my, checking the list I can't see Paula on it any more:-( The tour mugs are perfect, Ken! I paid 2.5 times the air fare as you people who booked early, with no refund option, so I may appear a little stunned when I arrive. Looking forward to the German mountains. See you all soon...

Damn Henning, I told him not to list me on his Forellen site! Now Ken can prepare himself by bringing a shovel and a little tree for me... Is there a cancellation policy for the Walking Tour? ;-)

mary........we have made maarten a brand new sash....his old one was just the 'miss sligo 2010' beauty queen sash that had been kindly donated by the recipient and then hurriedly adapted to suit the occasion...

....we were also thinking of a crown but jarkko has advised against it........ta ken
