As a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Leonard Cohen is now eligable to vote on upcoming Rock Hall nominees for induction. From now on he will be receiving Rock Hall ballots in his mailbox annually.

Geez. That $1,000.00 lifetime membership for the Songwriters Hall of Fame with attendance at all future ceremonies begins to look like a deal, doesn't it?

The writers are striking; how about if the inductees all struck and invited no one.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and Museum are non-profit organizations. They are exempt from paying taxes because they donate so much to music charities for starting musicians who need it.

Rock & Roll is a generic term.

Originally a black slang term for fornication with vigour (sex). The term was adopted by early rock n' roll DJs (mostly white) who used it to describe the hybrid R&B/Country we have all come to know and drink beer to. The term also probably contributed to the parental angst of the 1950's adding to the "evil" reputation of those "nasty rock n' rollers".

This year the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is all over the place with its inductees list – and that’s good. Pop’s agent provocateur Madonna, the punchy denim rocker John Mellencamp, the sophisticated poet Leonard Cohen; each will be on board at the Hall’s annual ceremony at New York’s Waldorf Astoria. Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Jennifer Warnes, Suzanne Vega, Bono...all of U2

The Rock Hall might even ask more than one artist to give an induction speech.

Leonard Cohen Inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame
DECEMBER 14, 2007
Decades of incomparable poetic and musical brilliance have finally brought Leonard Cohen into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Other inductees for the new year are: The Dave Clark Five, Madonna, John Mellencamp and The Ventures. Cohen shares the honour with a myriad of other globally influential artists who have made an impact on rock n' roll. Cohen will be featured in the Museum's Hall of Fame exhibit where a collection of all his songs will be included in the computerized "jukebox". He will be honoured at the twenty-third annual induction ceremony on March 10, 2008 in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

I LOVE this!

Perhaps, because the U.S. is so inexorably linked with the whole Rock 'n' Roll concept, a special element of pleasure is added... because now Leonard and his music are linked with the U.S. imperpetuity! It took us long enough to get there!

So far the Rock and Roll hall of Fame hasn't asked for my opinion of who should induct Leonard Cohen, but if they did I would highly recommend Judy Collins! They have a long shared history and it was through Judy Collin's Suzanne that i first became familiar with Leonard Cohen in 1968!
