Re: buses from Sligo to Lissandell.
Surprised at the price! is that one way or return?

My biggest concern is that the pickup time from the hotels is 3pm and it seems that is the only choice. (one bus only?)

That is awfully early to be going to the site. I was hoping to leave from the hotel at 4:30 - 5 the latest.
Not sure how many the bus holds. Not sure how many people will be at each hotel wanting rides but it could be over 50+++.

though I see you also can get picked up in town but I assume the lineups will be huge..

Is there anyway this schedule could be more flexible? in terms of pick up times...and how many does a bus hold?
I think this is the only way to get there without a car so what do others think?

I do realize there likely isn't that many buses anyways..and am grateful they are there at all..

thanks

I had exactly the same concerns re time from hotels especially and also long wait for return from Lissadell. Like you we think car is the only option at the moment. maybe folks staying at same hotels could link up to go by car. We would certainly be willing to do this. We are staying at Clarion House if anyone interested in sharing.

I was sitting in the garden at breakfast this morning basking in the unaccustomed sunshine, but the experience was blighted ever so slightly by the biting insect life. I know that concerns were expressed about Lissadell and midges early on when the concert was first announced. Does carlowmike or anyone else in an organisational capacity have the ear of the promoters. It might be worth them hiring in, for the duration of the weekend, something along the lines of http://www.mosquitomagnet.com/.

Given the degree of rampant scepticism around at the moment I am prepared to go in front of any Dáil committee to swear that I have no commercial links with this firm not have I any shares in the company (nor any other company, I hasten to add!)

Thanks Carlow Mike
Forgive me for not understanding but what is "a double booking" ? Does that mean return trip?
Also would you know if the 11 Euro is a return trip cost? or each way?
Just wondering if pick up time at hotels could be later than 3pm...
for instance 5pm?

thanks

I have no shares in this (or any other product) either.... but, I do have a mate who uses one... and my understanding is that it needs to be fired up in April/May, & left running for the season, so that it interferes with the breeding cycle (of the midges... ;-) ) so, if they're to keep us midge-free at Lissadell, they should be setting them up now... is anybody going to Sligo this week...?

my preferred option for the dreaded midges, is to get the insect repellent wipes from Boots.... the "extra strong" ones (they come in individual sachets... silver in colour...) these have the advantage of being easy to carry (stick a few in your pocket or bag) - easy to "top up" as the hours go by.... and don't have any adverse effects on one's neighbours (like the spray variety do...) and they seem to be as effective as anything else on the West of Ireland midge population - oh, standard disclaimer... I have no shares in Boots... ;-)

A big welcome to the newest forum member Discover Sligo who will have to appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Committee here and, on pain of eating shellakabuukies (gaeilige seilide, a slug), swear that they are not allied in any way to discoversligo.com! But if they do a good line in cut price mosquito repellant they will be forgive a multitude of venial transgressions.

Discover Sligo wrote:Discover Sligo: Keith & Marion work at Discover Sligo. Marion, a student from our local college, is on a work placement for the summer and will keep the forum up to date with news and answer all the questions we can. Discover Sligo’s website and magazine aims to make it easy for people to get the information they need to enjoy Sligo. We have read the forum comments and will try to provide a concise summary of, hopefully, useful information. Please email us if we can help in anyway. Sligo is a beautiful county. It’s a privilege and a delight that Leonard Cohen will come to Lissadell and we want to do our best to help make your visit to Sligo memorable and thoroughly enjoyable. Tomorrow we will post info on questions raised in the forum eg buses, transport, access to the venue, restaurants etc. Till later. Keith :D
I'm sure everyone will appreciate the direct link to Discover Sligo for information straight from the horse's mouth so to speak. However, I think Keith and Marion should make it clear that - as I understand it - Discover Sligo is not an independent tourist information service but a COMMERCIAL ORGANISATION ie the people organising the transport to and from Sligo, to and from the concert, Sligo tours for people attending the conert and the souvenir concert edition of Discover Sligo magazine. Nothing wrong in that per se (I have already ordered my souvenir magazine - hope it's a good one for €7.50!) just so long as everyone is clear that the information / advice may not be totally independent.

I concur. It's one thing to provide a link to a useful source of information, it is quite another to have that source contribute to what is afterall the Leonard Cohen Forum. This family of LC fans come to glean what we can about Leonard not to go shopping at some jumble sale of what may or may not be available at a show venue, just look at any other city/town thread you will not find there what is happening on this/these Sligo threads. We are not here to promote ourselves, I'm sure we could all sell something on this forum but manners and respect prevails.

While I'm on a rant, why do we need to book our seats now, maybe the tour company want to "corner the market"!! I don't mean to appear ungracious or ungrateful but things are just getting a bit too commercial. Is it not time to chill and get back to basics?
