well, my dear bernadine:

i'm sorry for this one, i promise i won't turn every single word of this thread into a poem, but i have to do this:

tonight will be wine

sometimes a poem is as good as a wine,
i will ask for the mercy that you love to decline.
you keep right on loving,
i will drop a line
now the glass is yours, and the poetry is mine.

but i know
from your eyes
and i know
from your smile
that tonight will be wine
will be wine
will be wine
will be wine....for a while.

i choose all the words that i write down with care
the verses are naughty but the choruses are fair,
there’s only one bottle and there’s only one prayer,
my latest poem is a ballad of the absent mare.

(chorus)

oh sometimes i can hear her lecturing for me,
she’s the soft drunken poet love meant her to be,
and she’s moving her bottle so brave and so free.
well, so much for “the booze is poet’s archenemy!”.

(chorus)

la la la
la la la
la la la
la la le
...
(more babbling)

I have to disagree on that one Bernadine but then you probably knew I would . It's a chicken and egg thing . Do you have some wine because you have wrote a good poem or do you have some wine to write a good poem . With me it is usually the second one (but not always )
Happy Days

Maulwurf... you follow in YL's footsteps, with wonderful words. I loved this poem. Many thanks. I could not write a poem to save my life but oh how I love to read the poems, especially on this thread.

Keep 'em comin'

philip....what's all this 'YL' nonsense?

...have you morphed into a designer label or a bottle of expensive perfume?...if you are too lazy to write 'yorkshirelad...then why not just give yourself a number like they did in 'the prisoner'....and we all know your number dear

I must offer my sincere apologies Ken from now on it will be Yorkshire Lad but opn the subject of numbers you mock them at your peril as this will prove :

ONE is for the lonely bird that perched upon the wire
TWO for contradictions contained in who by fire
THREE the law, the arm, the hand are rules with which men fight
FOUR a cold December time in the middle of the night
FIVE is for the fingerprints to identify the brand
SIX the dice are loaded everybody knows where they will land
SEVEN are the many times he called out to his lover
EIGHT nights after eight nights the singer’s life was over
NINE years old his father came and stood so tall above him
TEN women in Vienna one reason we all love him

...philip...i have to agree with bernadine's first observation...your ability to turn the mudane as in your recent ode to bird shit and now your numbers poem into a thing of wonder is indeed astonishing......

....however i'm not too sure about the improving with age part of her post....i've never subscribed to the idea that one gets better/wiser with age...if you don't believe me just go down to the post office any monday morning and take a look at the miserable old pensioners queuing up for their state pension.... i think it makes better sense that you were a child genius and now as your inevitable slow decline starts you are producing only work that is merely brilliant rather than your far off childhood works of genius...it's only a theory of course and no doubt your female fans will start sticking pins again in that old liverpoolken voodoo doll that is forever being eagerly passed around amongst them

...ouch....ouch.....it's already started....ta ken

a rather nice surprise came for me this morning - a postcard from Hydra:-) Thanks to those who signed, and extra thanks to my lovely friend Judy!

This thread is still crazy after all these posts. I am not a fan of weddings but for Ken and Tinds I will make an exception. I am searching for a hat to outdo Princess Beatrice as I speak.

Strangely silent, since you said you were on the look out for a hat Diane.

Everyone relax, there will be no wedding. I tried it once and didn't like it.

Never again

A message from Bernadine

Relax everyone there will be no wedding
No hats to buy or tears to be shedding
I did it once but did not concur
No bathroom robes labelled him and her
I am content to be on my own
Quite relaxed being all alone
If I need some company I will buy a pet
A nice Jack Russell is what I will get
A dog will never criticise
Treat me cruel or tell me lies
If I give him the same food everyday
He will gladly eat it without delay
He will never get drunk and never complain
He won’t be resentful when he gets the blame
He will snuggle up close to show me affection
And chase away strangers to give me protection
He will do all these things and what is more
He will gladly sleep on the bedroom floor

Oh that's too bad, Tinds but I'm sure you've made the right decision.

I'd thought these for you and Ken:

I am almost changing my mind here Diane... 1000 kisses and Bonnie and Clyde hats.... all seems very romantic to me :)

Not sure if the hallelujah cap is a meant as a sigh of relief from all my men I got on the sofa lol, that they finally got rid of me :)
