I've never seen a migration, but I don't know why. The map shows them coming right by ! Literally overhead, according to the arrow. The last photo makes me weep... to imagine them all gathered and bunched and flying... the sky orange-black and them pre-destined to reach their destination . They weren't talking about butterflies, but on NPR tonight, there was a report on birds and how sight seems to be part of their recognition of magnetic fields. It's even more astonishing when, as you've said, the new group has never been there. So MUCH we don't know .

Well, time for bed to dream of butterflies . I know the latecomers will find you still awake. You and your trusty Advil . Yes... water. Now I remember that being part of the deal.

It's time for me to head off now too But I didn't want to leave without an end pic of Monarchs in clusters, hibernating (I wonder if Alber hibernates). What a trip! They cover whole branches and trees at some sites, their wings overlapping to help them stay warm and reduce their chances of the winds dislodging them. At some Mexico sites, there are over a million Monarchs per acre. And I just found out there's an overwintering site here, not 2 miles from home!!!!!! How fantastic..... If you can, you must try to see them, Lizzy.
