Haiku corner

Post by Richard »

Here are some haiku that I've written. I think this is a wonderful form of poetry. It's amazing how much imagery, complete with atmosphere and action, can be shared in just a few lines. I tend to stick to the 5-7-5 format.

Lying in silence
Our bodies do the talking
More than words could say

I can seize the day
But can't capture the moment
My chain's weakest link

Fragrant warm Spring wind
All the wind chimes going wild
The air energized

The spine-tingling screams
That chilled my blood are only
Howling coyotes

Everybody has
A tool of self-destruction
They use for pleasure

Whisper in the dark
Thought that I was all alone
Terror shiver spark

When the rainfall ends
The sun is turning puddles
Into sweet spring air

Watching through windows
I forget it's wintertime
It looks like summer

What did I leave you?
Was I maybe a muse, or
Merely amusing?

Richard

Wow.....Richard.

Have you been writing Haiku for some time now? These are beautiful; simply, truly beautiful. Insightful, fresh, and alive. When I return to work and a functioning printer, I'll be making a copy of these for keeping, as well as displaying. Thank you so much for sharing them. I agree on the resplendent nature of Haiku. I would say keep writing them; however, I know you will. It couldn't be any more obvious.

Hi Taigaku ~

Your haiku reminds me of a short [film] that I saw ~ oh, I wish I knew where ~ of that very thing :D . It was a leaf caught dancing with the grace and beauty of a ballet.....it went on for what could have been an entire movement.

Novice Haiku...17 or 12

Post by Makera »

Never tried
this before
I'll give it a shot
and try again some more--

You keep your God
locked in a box
You lost the key

You keep your God
locked in a box
You want no key
You shall not be Free

(Well, that's two 17s and a 12)

Some more...

Since my first attempt must have been 'orthodox' Haiku (no one said otherwise) I guess I will complete the set.

You keep your God
locked in a box
There was no key
You were always free

Silently swooping low
Talons seize the rustling prize.
Slash of red on white.

By the rivers dark
Illuminations soul long.
Predators await.

In every cell
Busy is the dying birth.
Love's house of mirrors.

The long black ribbon
Rises up before the hood.
The mallee streaks by.

Sighing eucalypts
Raking my patch of azure.
Darts below, a wren.

Hoooot. A visiting owl.

When I’m in Heaven?
I will always think of you
Will you think of me?

My page is my voice
Crystal clear, resounding, stop.
Deafening the blind.

I have always loved haikus for their siplicity. They are so beautiful.
I'm not any good at writing haikus, but here are some of mine. Written not to be intersting or vaulable but for my own entertainment

White all around
silence absolute
i hear a whisper

Green trees dressing up
in lovely yellow and red
to enjoy the autumn

silently listen
to the stories of trees
are you not amazed ?

Call me and always
i will appear from shadows
loving and caring
