We have been listening to recordings of him singing since he was a young man, dripping sexuality all over the place, wowing the women...lizzytysh wrote:Impossible for me.I suspect we would be disappointed...
What causes you to suspect that, Fljotsdale?

He isn't that person any more.
We would be disappointed. Imo.
Only just found this video of LC:

Hey Heretic, it's good to see you also, I'm glad you still remember your password after 2 and a half year since your last post
Yeah I guess that the last thing Partisan needs is (my) massaging og his ego.
As for the newbies, I guess Leonard is publishing to much, so he's attracting new fans

Back to touring, because I guess this topic will be the most visited one and we don't want people to be lost in our chatting...
I wrote few times that I prefer few more albums from Leonard and perhaps, a book in few years (hopefully, as he delayed Book of Longing since early 1990s), than to see him exhausted because of the tour. But I personally have that vivid image of an old poet waking up at 3am and going to write and record in his garage studio, so who cares what I think. I'm the strange fan who likes that image, and could live without seeing him live on stage.
Maybe the pressing for the tour is to heavy for him. I think he could drop the idea about "world wide" touring in his 73, even if "limited touring" (as it was rephrased later). Few shows in Montreal or New York, totally recorded and then released on DVD/double CD, it's reasonable project. And it could be done. I personally, a sthe fan, would be against big tour in 25 European cities or whatever, if it makes his daily routine impossible (the tour means he wouldn't be able to keep his routine in writing and recording and drawing for some time). And particularly if it makes him tired.
Also, remembering Leonard's talk from 1980s how he likes to see old performer on stage and the truth (s)he brings, and how he would like to perform like that until the end, those people weren't touring through three continents, but kept appearing in few places like NYC or Las Vegas.

I tend to agree with Tom - I would prefer that LC took on a short tour or just made several appearances in two or three places, rather than be daunted by the thought of an exhausting world tour and then go cold on the whole idea.
I certainly hope he and his new management don't see it as an all or nothing type situation. Anyway, I guess what will be will be - one can only hope.
Cheers

I actually talked to someone who was working on the world tour last night. He told me that Leonard had cancelled all plans for touring in light of the judgement and the fact that he couldn't get in the right head space for it. That was the reason that he is no longer with Feldman because that is their forte.
So according to this guy Leonard is not planning on touring again. I just about cried when I heard that. He also said he had heard him sing a couple of numbers at a very private function quite a number of months ago and his voice was in extremely fine form.

We all know that Leonard was hesitating about the tour from the very beginning, his capability and the tour's scope. Anyhow, the tour isn't cancelled yet and in any case it was never really announced; its plans never went further than general ideas to tour. When it was announced by Feldman Management (as "proposed") in Spring 2005, it was said "after the new album". That album is still in making and probably late by now (Sony sites did claim "Fall 2006" as release date) due to work on final drafts of Book of Longing, finishing Blue Alert, promotion of these two projects, Hall of Fame events, legal matters, Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man movie's shooting, promotion and press appearances. Also we know that Leonard is writing and recording every day he can find time. So in this moment it's obvious that Leonard is trying to concentrate only on his new album and that means that no final decisions of the tour have not been made yet, and probably won't be before the album's release, particularly in light of the fact that he was trying quite recently to gather new band. Let's wait for the album first. (I am crossing fingers for Spring 2007.)

I've recenty finished reading his Bio by Ira Nadel; it seems that long delays are nothing new with our Leonard! He keeps revising and perfecting...Tom Sakic wrote:We all know that Leonard was hesitating about the tour from the very beginning, his capability and the tour's scope. Hi Fljotsdale ~
I had meant to respond to your reply to me far sooner than this... but you know how that can be. I'm thinking that maybe we've been listening to Leonard all these years from slightly different perspectives.
I've seen and heard him as being sexy, yes; moreso, for me, however, have been the elements of comfort and life wisdom that he has brought me. His words and voice have sustained me through some very difficult times.
I've said this from time to time and, in these circumstances, it bears saying again... there are three people whose voices have brought me comfort and made me feel 'at home' just by hearing them. Those voices belong to my Dad [now gone], my former husband, and Leonard. I've watched and listened to Leonard in various albums, interviews, and videos as he's grown older, and though his voice has somewhat changed, as it will across the years, there is a remarkable element that remains the same, and its effect on me has not changed. Simply seeing his face brings all the same associations. He's older, even wiser, and more at peace with himself, and even though I may never, I would love to see him in person, again. It would be impossible for me, in any way, to be disappointed.
I recognize that not everyone may feel the same, but these feelings in me remain very strong.
Love,
Lizzy

Hiya, Lizzie!
No - I don't mean disappointed with LEONARD! Just that if his voice has gone (but icecreamtruck says it hasn't!
) then it would be disappointing for us and embarrassing for him ... I'd hate him to expose himself to ridicule... I'd punch anyone in the eye who did it!
And then...
On the Dear Heather disc his voice was largely hidden behind female singers, which annoys the pants off me, but I figured they did it to hide defects in his voice; maybe there were other reasons, but I can't imagine what they could be... Did the producers think we wouldn't be interested unless there were fresh young voices singing his songs and drowning him out? Did Leonard think so? Thank goodness not ALL of the tracks were drowned with young female voices!
I love Leonard Cohen's voice, and I don't care that it is older and different from his young/middle-aged voice: it's a voice that reaches inside and grabs your emotions, or triggers your mind with appreciation of a clever bit of lyric and/or makes you laugh.
I came to Leonard's music as an old woman, so his being only a little older than me is not a problem
But I don't want him ridiculed if his voice and stage presence isn't what it was...

Well, Pavarotti or Callas' voice may have gone, but Leonard's voice may not. His voice cannot go, as he is NOT a singer... Even close from silence, his voice will never go !
Fljotsdale, the choice of being hidden behind female voices has always been Leonard's choice and he often tolds that it was the only way he can accept his own voice.
Patyou
