I love willie, and find much to like on this album --
including Hallelujah
Greg nailed the appeal of not striving for holy -- right on!
I have sent some negative feedback to Lost Highway (label) however --- not one songwriting credit in the package. At least one omission bothers me muchly!
Willie sings Hallelujah
More to add --
thanks kush for that great imus/willie story
wonderful humor
inside cover art on the cd --- 5 horizontal lines of birds -- with thin vertical lines......
birds on wires?
Finally -- I too have always admired Bobbie and have enjoyed their partnership on albums and live performances... but on this album, it appears only great long time hamonica for willie -- micky raphael -- is included. Rest of the band consists of Ryan Adams band, the Cardinals. Some extra background voice credits for Hallelujah and two other songs.

I just listened to the link -- have to say I liked Hallelujah quite a lot, as well as Stella Blue (another favorite song for me.)
In general, I enjoy hearing covers -- unless I feel they are an absolute massacre, that is....

I must lie down where all the ladders start
