We are open to all suggestions re. the 2010 Event in Europe. Barcelona would be an excellent choice! The city has also excellent flight services to many European and overseas destinations.
I guess the organizing committee will need some 3-5 active members, ready to committing themselves to a long and exacting job. All Events are individual projects that have to manage on their own also financially; we have no reserve money to allocate. The organizers have to fix a realistic budget based on all local costs (venues, technical equipment, booklet and so on) and an estimated minimum number of participants (let's say 200).

A few weeks ago the members of Barcelona are delaying our periodic meeting for holidays reasons. I can assure that Barcelona 2010 will be the great point of treating in the next time; the meeting will reach level of high business in the second round of beers.

But I need to say that I see to me with little energies and capacity for this kind of things. (I don't have idea). Just if they are very filled with enthusiasm I would help them.
Anyway, thanks for the offer, it's a great honour.

The Events are in turns in North America and Europe:
1998 UK - 2000 Montreal - 2002 Hydra Greece - 2004 New York - 2006 Berlin - 2008 Edmonton - 2010 back somewhere in Europe.
Now, for that "2010 back somewhere in Europe" if anything else
doesn't come up consider please a second Event on Hydra.
Hydra 2010 Event-The Leonard Cohen Experience Reloaded!
I am willing to help in the organizing, God or Devil permitting.

Hydriot, I am sorry I couldn't join you for the drinks and the Pyrofani dinner but I had to leave from Hydra the next morning

I don't think it is a bad idea to be already discussing the possibilities ... and would look forward to Barcelona or another Hydra or Croatia or.... wherever the most enthusiatic host thinks it ought to be!

I edited this thread a bit (it's original title was "[F.G.] Lorca Death") and removed some messages that related just to the subject line.
Let's discuss the 2010 Event here. I also removed the new thread about the same topic, started by Dick.

Also Vienna 2010 is in discussion ! Michael Brauner, artist of the Berlin event, is interested to organise it. Maybe for the first time we need a committee for a decision like in the olympics and I want to be in that committee. I am already looking forward to all the bribes, bracelettes, barbeques, beers, brunettes and blondies.

After our wonderful visit before berlin, we would cetainly support Crackow! We even found a jazz club we thought would be great locale.
RazyDazyJazz, we think.
Go for it Pawel and Sebastian and Jacob and Justyna!

I'm with you on that, too, Dick... Krakow is amazing. It's a place for returning to, no matter what.
You can do this, Pawel

... and Justyna

. Sebastian and Jacob, too

? It's a shoe-in

. You realize, of course, that doing more than suggesting it is required, right, Pawel

?
Then, there's Croatia and Barcelona. What choices

! It's going to take some serious motivation and organizational skills.
Hydra ~ always. During the time frame that will include Xenia... the best idea

.

I know my geography is just awful, but I was pretty sure Krakow was in Poland... When did Croatia come into the picture, Lizzy? (I thought I read the thread carefully enough... did I miss something, after all?)
And Henning... come on, consider Barcelona just a bit... Hot weather guaranteed, hot girls (all hair colours) must be the logical result... All those tiny dresses I didn´t get the chance to show off in Berlin (and knock all the men off their feet, of course

), hurray, I could finally wear them!
I am in Spain now, which is my fifth time here, and I wish I could come back again and again. Mediterrane definitely has a wonderful effect on people-at least as far as the holiday and enjoying part is concerned.

Here is a list of potential Event cities in 2010 - mentioned either here on The Forum or in the discussion in Berlin (in alphabetical order):
Amsterdam, Holland
Barcelona, Spain
Cracow, Poland
Dublin, Ireland
Dubrovnik, Croatia
London, UK
Vienna, Austria
Hydra has been suggested, too, but I think it would be too early to go back there with a full-scale Event. It will continue to be the perfect place for more informal gap-year gatherings, meetups between the big Events (just like we did in 2005)!
It is too early to make any decisions regarding the 2010 Event now. The Edmonton Event in July 2008 comes first, and it will be OK if we know by then where to meet in 2010.
I repeat that the most important thing is to have a local, active team with members who are willing to use their time and energy to create another great gathering - they will also be financially responsible for the event budget!
Though we have plenty of time before the decisions have to be made, it's a good idea to discuss the candidate cities and organizers here!

We nominated
Dubrovnik 2010 during Berlin Event. Maybe that was just craziness caused by Henning's great event, so we have to gather ourselves now and to see if we're still in the game for that. - If someone says (as I heard in Berlin) that there's no Cohen connection to Croatia and Dubrovnik, well, I can say only that our motto is "The Event happens there where the fans are." Jarkko told all the reasons in previous posts. We can't organise the event in Lorca's hometown if there are no local fans to do it...
What brings me back to other suggestions. I think that I told to few people in Berlin that great European locations, with Cohen connections, are:
- Spain, Granada, because of Garcia Lorca
- Poland, because it's European Leonard Cohen country No. 1
So, I'd support these tow places also. As for
Dubrovnik, except for the city itself, and possible Leonard's visit to Croatia before 2010 (2007 tour?), there are another two points: we have the man with organisational powers to do it (he was in Berlin), and
Ibrica Jusic is from Dubrovnik, so he would act one of his famous troubadour shows on old city streets for us.

Eija and I visited Dubrovnink long time ago and have very warm memories from the town. It would be a bit Hydra-type location in comparison with the big Event cities (like Montreal, New York, Berlin).
Absolutely one of the perfect places for another Event!
Maybe we should next ask any potential organizing teams to come forward
with their plans and suggestions. That way we will see which cities/teams are serious about this and have the required resources.
