Hi Wendy!
I soooo envy you! I have never seen Leonard in concert. I have some tapes but as wonderful as they are you can't possibly get the full experience! What were the probable reasons you think that he kept leaving the stage? It wasn't health problems, I hope!
Leonard live at the national stadium, Dublin 1988
Hi Coco
I have heard that at that time he needed quite a lot of addictive substances, this is just what I have heard I have no evidence of this, so no law suits please. I was fortunate just recently to receive a cd of the very concert I attended. What I found amazing was the vast diversity of the audience, they ranged from men in business suits to those sporting mohican hairstyles. I have been looking back on that night and I remember as we took our seats I was looking around the auditorium and noticed up on an empty part of the balcony near the stage was a lone figure sitting in the shadows, I often wonder if that might have been Cohen observing his audience. Anyway it was a wonderful night and one which I will never forget.

Re: Leonard live at the national stadium, Dublin 1988
I WAS THERE!
I was only 19, and had spent the previous 4 years being lulled to sleep by Leonard's first 3 albums, very typical of teenagers the world over.... When he announced a tour in Dublin, I couldn't wait to get tickets!
My boyfriend and I were shocked to find ourselves by far the youngest people in the audience, but at the first note... we knew why! Pure magic, and a voice deeper than we could possibly imagine!
We heard the lyrics to songs from 'I'm your Man' for the first time and fell in love all over again! The dark humour, the self analysis, the satire... wonderful. And when he sang (if you can call a sound that deep singing...) 'I was born with the gift of a golden voice' the cheers from the crowd were deafening!
We bought I'm your man on the way out of the concert, and later that year reintroduced Leonard to my uncle, who from that day to this has been Leonard's Number 1 Irish fan (I now live in London)
We (my Husband & I) have seen Leonard in The O2 twice, At Brooklands (10 minutes cycle from our house!) and recently at Wembley Arena (formerly the Hop Farm)
We will be there at the next London Concert..... If it be His will
