Of course, she could have bought them whilst living there, working as an au pair.

Or, she could have traveled there and bought them on her trip... and later returned to work as an au pair because she liked it so much in Newcastle.

And I can't believe they met only recently. Amazing. Still each others soulmates.
And Mariannes new husbond Jan calls Leonard a handsome man. I bet.

I did the first few paragraphs. My Norwegian is very rusty (I haven't been practicing) and some of the words I can't find in my dictionary.

Marianne Ihlen gets hvirvlet (not in my dictionary) in at Axel Jensens turbulence life and speaks of Leonard Cohen. Back on the fateful island Hydra she tells her story.

Marianne Ihlen (71?) came to the Greek Island Hydra together with the writer, Axel Jensen on a cold December day in 1957. She was 22. Axel was 24 and had just broken out with his debut ‘Ikaros’.

A clear May day in 2006, 40 years later, she is in their first little crawl (?) by land while memories-- and tears—push in.

Thank you, Madison, for not abandoning this project... I understand too well the nature of delays, so am both understanding and glad to see this finally appear. I see it's even more poignant in its expression than I thought... and I thought it was already. Keep going... .

The power of memory and living, even years later, with loss... though not daily, there are still times when our bodies simply respond to it.

Might "sojourn" be the word for crawl? Or, does it refer to the actual place where they stayed? If so, then maybe "place"? There are some mixing and matching of words here that take it from out of one word and into another, but then out of it, as well.

If I remember correctly, this article was accompanied by a photo of Marianne gazing wistfully out from the balcony of Sophia's, then the cheapest place to stay on the island (the mattresses were just straw-filled palliases), so perhaps "crawl by land" is Norwegian slang for 'doss-house' or 'bolt-hole'.

Since it is pretty long article, I am going to try and set aside time each morning to do a paragraph or two a day. It might be a few days before you have more to read but I will get it done....

I also have to ask one of my friends on myspace to translate some of the words I can't figure out. She lived in Norway as a child and has been helping me. Ah..... sweet technology!!!

Anything that doesn't kill you only serves to postpone the inevitable.
