I call for Joe Henry who made Solomon Burke's Don't Give Up On Me flow perfectly... I was thinking that's exactly the production Leonard could use right now!

Ye-oOw.
A vote.
A vote is a very
serious matter.
As far as I know, Daniel Lanois is respected for the quality of his work. This is not an exhaustive knowledge about him that I have. And he is not so famous also to be known at (very) large.
So.
Maybe this would help to vote.

Yep. I think with LC's recent collaborations with U2, Lanois will get the job, but other than Dylan, none of the artists listed are really in the same 'class' or 'style' of LC.
I already said what I have to say, and I won't waste more virtual paper/ink repeating myself. Still, thanks for the link, Tchoc. It will come in handy for those that aren't familiar with the producers listed (esp. Lanois) and don't know how to use a search engine.
On that note, I didn't know he produced 'Vagabond Ways'. If he could get some more voice out of Marianne, he might be able to do it for Leonard. Well, ditto, for Dylan, of course. Still, my belief is firm. No more referendums for me.

Being a Shivaree fan I'd go for Henry as a second choice after Lanois.
But still I find that DL does'nt over-intrude in the space of the artists he works with. Or is it so? I don't know. "Time out of Mind" was still very much a Dylan album. I guess you have to know Lanois to recognize him in the blend. But when you do recognize DL in the general feel of the album, you know how influencial he must have been. The result was just great.
Leonard Cohen and Ambrosia Parsley! Now there's a thought... (in favor of Henry)

My suggestion: Leonard Cohen with his team (Leanne Ungar, Sharon Robinson, Anjani Thomas) + John Lissauer. And if Bob Metzger apperas on guitar, Raffi Hakopian on violin, and maybe David Campbell does some strings arrangements again, I'd be happy.

Hello!! It's been a while since I posted!! Homework and stuff!!
But I'd vote for Nigel codrich, because he has done a brilliant job on Paul McCartneys new lp!!
He could support leonard too!!

Has any more info on the producer floated around lately?
While Leonard can do whatever he wants, I personally would like to see him drop his collaborators from the last couple albums and do something with a different sound. I fell that the synth-laden lite jazz of the last couple albums has been detrimental to the songs. I'm all for artistic freedom, but I think that the proper artistic move would be to introduce some new collaborators with new ideas.

I always thought Beck would be a great fit to produce one of Cohen's albums. Beck is a huge fan, and I bet he could get Leonard back to his acoustic guitar. There are few people today that come close to Beck's quality of acoustic-base music.
I saw someone mention Nigel Godrich. He's a good pic as well. And it just so happens he co-produced two great beck albums: "Mutations" and "Sea Change"
No offense to some of the choices, but the last thing Leonard needs is an old person producing his album. Someone with young blood and a fresh perspective would be great.
