The thing I find about LC is you can have a new favourite every day, depending on your mood etc....... Leonard has an emotive response for every feeling we have :)

Hello to all our newbies and hello to Jurica in Rotterdam. (2nd) partisan, I hope that the change of your name will stopp you visiting here (as it seems) - you can simply chose another and register again:-)

Cohen Kid - don't worry, that vinyl thread is for older fans  Here we have also plenty of younger fans who became fans thru Tarantino's soundtracks, The Future, Ten New Songs... And who enjoy CDs as well as older fans enjoy and miss their vinyl LPs... :D
But as you see, it's all OK, everyone loves Nancy and Songs From A Room... There's plenty to agree upon!

You're right about that! I became a real fan after hearing 10 new songs. I knew about the album because it was discussed on the radio. 8) Haven't got dear heather yet, but I will... 8)

Tom  !

Since when are "older fans" relegated to particular threads?

What ~ also ~ is the line of demarcation between "older" and "younger" fans?

Tom, what are we "older" fans going to do with you?

Hello onthaal aan het forum, houdt van u oliebollen?

My best friend in high school was Dutch and so is my sister-by-law, she was born there. I like it when after a few glasses of wine she speaks Dutch.

I cheated and used we web site. All I have learnt is (spelling is most likely wrong) Ddah u bein ye??? Hoot.

There was a man in Yellowknife back in 1980's named old Tom. He was Dutch and made his money carrying water to the miners. He did not spend his money and it was rumoured that he was rich, and that he owned land (after googling him I see he was). My friend Linco taught me to greet him this way. He was impressed and asked me my name I told him Diane Terry. He said no your last name, I told him Terry he thought I was making fun of him and told me basically to get lost.
He can be googled: http://www.histori.ca/fairs/studentProj ... 1?id=13011
Tom Doornbos
...Along with this, he had many travel stories about how he paid so little to get somewhere. The first of these that I found was that he got on to the bus that was going to Edmonton. The driver asked him for his fare or his ticket, and Tom replied, “You going to Edmonton? One more passenger won’t make a difference, I’ll just ride with you.” If Tom couldn’t get a ride like that, he was notorious for hitch-hiking his way to and from the place he wanted to go, but if that failed, he would buy a bargained down plane or bus ticket. One person he knew well said that Tom had just gotten back from a vacation, and he asked where he had gone, and how much it had cost. Doornbos replied, “I went to see the Vancouver Exposition, and it cost me $10.” He was amazed at how frugal this character could be.

Great story!! I read the whole thing on this link.

I really liked this bit:
Tom wandered into the Yellowknife Inn when they had pie for only 35 cents, and ordered a piece. He sat down, took one bite, gave the waitress 10 cents, and told her to take or leave it, that he was paying for what he had eaten.

I think I'll try that once! Interesting character.
